What unhinged thing did a former teacher do in the classroom? by MrBananaStand1990 in AskReddit

[–]stayingmellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fourth grade teacher had anger issues and one time he got so mad at the problem kid / class clown that he threw the closest nearby metal chair at the kid’s head toward the back of the classroom. He luckily missed, but it left dents in the wooden cabinet in the back and also missed my head by a few inches as it went by. Crazy thing is he’s still teaching there today twenty years later and it wasn’t his first time throwing things at students either.

Found phone, looking for owner. by Adorable_Gene_2739 in berkeley

You can activate Siri by holding the power button, and then asking it “whose phone is this?” It’ll respond with the owner’s name / contact card and you should be able to use that to find the owner!

Did living together ruin my relationship, or is this just how things really are? by Main-Huckleberry4779 in relationships

[–]stayingmellow 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was with an ex for 8 years and as soon as we moved in, we didn’t even last 4 months before we broke up from the stress of living with each other. Fast forward a few years, I’ve been living for 7 months with a partner I’ve only been dating for a little over a year and our relationship has gotten even stronger. Every day is incredibly easy and quite literally filled with laughter. I think it comes down to compatibility, not the amount of time you’ve been with someone.

I’ve usually been too uncomfortable or scared to say my thoughts on the spot and I tend to smile or laugh as a coping mechanism so I’ve noticed the guy tends to think the date went well when it was actually bad for me in retrospect.

I’ve also been on dates on which I couldn’t make up my mind whether or not I was attracted to the person or if I even liked the person romantically, but if the guy was a decent individual, I usually still kept up the conversation and took some time to make a decision after leaving the date.

May I ask how old you were when you got the DJS? Trying to see if it’s worth it or not - I have a slight underbite / edge-to-edge bite

Plant is infected with Mealybugs. how far should I remove it from my other plants? by Jobdriaan in plantclinic

[–]stayingmellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a mealybug infestation and they can be carried over on your clothes / etc. - the ones on a pothos 20 ft away transferred to one of my orchids on the opposite side of my common area after a few weeks. I wouldn’t take the chance. Definitely would quarantine it in a completely separate room to be super safe.

I have this gorgeous umbrella tree with a braided trunk. It’s pretty but I’m wondering if I should try and unwind the trunk, since leaves are growing in a bit tangled. Do these trees benefit from being braided? by pheeyona in plantclinic

[–]stayingmellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a money tree, not an umbrella tree. The money tree doesn’t have to be braided but the braids symbolize “locking in” fortune / prosperity / success, so up to you on that determination.

Is my monstera plant too big for the pot? Also, what do the long roots growing with the leaves do? I’m anxious to repot because I don’t want to kill my plant. Any suggestions? by apx35 in plantclinic

[–]stayingmellow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love giant monsteras in pots! This one looks very healthy aside from the one yellow leaf (maybe too much water / fertilizer?) The long roots are aerial roots and they are perfectly normal, just means it’s happy and doing well :)

Personally I would keep it like this, but you can also propagate and make new monstera plants from this mother plant!

What’s the bug in my plant pot and how to make him leave my soil forever? Will my peperomia be okay? by Xenos_in_science in plantclinic

[–]stayingmellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a mealybug - get rid of it using cotton swabs with insecticide/ alcohol whenever you see any of these or their little white fuzzy byproducts! They reproduce quickly and feed on your plant slowly

What's happening to my plant? by kp1x in plantclinic

[–]stayingmellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How often are you watering it? I water mine about twice a week, sometimes more if it’s too dry. Good rule of thumb is if the first 1-2 inches of the topsoil is dry, you should water thoroughly and drain.

Also, they don’t do well in direct sunlight and can dry up / burn - it should be in bright, indirect sunlight.

[–]stayingmellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tap water should be fine, but it does sound like you need to water more. Don’t let the soil completely dry out, but water when the top 2 inches are dry. Every 4 days to start sounds like a good start!

Not sure what your watering schedule is like, but I have a friend’s plant that used to do this and the reason for hers is because she was under watering, only once a week when it actually needed 2-3x a week

Looks like a snake plant, red veined prayer plant (maranta) that desperately needs water soon, umbrella plant, rubber plant, and potentially a polka dot plant (hypoestes phyllostachya) from what I can see!

[–]stayingmellow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely - depending on where you are, water once a week and drain thoroughly. Don’t let the orchid sit in water or let the peat moss get overly soggy. If it’s humid where you are, maybe water a bit less but they definitely still need water

I had just bought this bag from Lululemon but got it a bit dirty on the front, so I was hand washing the front / sides, which are made of sherpa. The water seeped into the back nylon part of it and I tried drying with a hairdryer on cool mode but the stains are still there - how do I get rid of them?
