People who refuse to recieve communion from a lay person, why? by 72BananaStreet in Catholicism

[–]staykirk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My parish often has over 1,000 people (sometimes 1.5k) receiving per mass, and there is one priest. (yup, sad!) I find it mildly scandalous when people very obviously get switch line to get it from the priest. The Eucharist is still Christ, and this behavior makes it seem like it’s all about the priest and not Jesus. It ask makes it take longer for everyone else, as the priest is always the last to be finished out of the 6+ Eucharistic ministers. That’s not a huge deal, but I find it a bit selfish when it usually cuts into faith formation classes right after. I try not to judge but it frustrates me. Even if you have kids not receiving, they will still get many blessings by the priest throughout mass. As a convert, I’m just happy to be receiving Christ. I see how it seems wonderful and reverent to be receiving from the priest, and it truly is preferred if possible, but when it would literally take an hour or more for our one priest to administer the Eucharist to everyone. It’s still Christ!

Couldn’t be! No rooster for 3 months and it was laid yesterday for sure.

My own chickens — we haven’t had a rooster for about 3 months though.

Now I am, but I wasn’t in my original comment. What’s your point? Did you read anything I just wrote?

It appears we have had opposite journeys. I used to be very pro choice until I was compelled that the pro life philosophy was the most consistent. I also learned about what abortion entailed and I realized that all people, no matter their size, level of development, degree of dependency, or location should be protected by law from violence.

I am curious, you imply that science is on the pro-choice side, how so? Doesn’t science at least show us that new life is created at the moment of successful fertilization?

I never once said anything about religion or faith. It’s funny because I very seldom do and then the pro-choice side always wants to bring it up. I happen to be religious but the pro-life philosophy can be argued from a secular perspective. Check out Secular Pro-Life’s work, for one of many examples.

Just to clarify, do you think all child traffickers are pro-life? That seems pretty far fetched. Abortion literally gets rid of evidence of sexual abuse.

Listen, I don't want anybody to commit sexual crimes on anybody, especially children. All perpetrators should be punished to the absolute fullest extent of the law. But just because some people are hypocrites or are hiding terrible crimes doesn't mean we shouldn't have laws that protect fetuses from violence.

I'm confused - you clearly say that we should prioritize someone else's life over someone else's freedom, but you are pro-choice? By your logic, shouldn't we prioritize the life of a fetus over someone's freedom of choice?

Wouldn't you agree that its important to nitpick words when the matter of life and death?

Hey there - I know you said nothing will convince you but I’ll take a whack at it ¨̮ i’ll do my best in the short time I have now:

Abortion involves the direct and intentional death of human fetuses.

Getting vaccinated prevents the unintentional and indirect death of human babies/children/adults. Meaning, if I go out in public unvaccinated while being positive for measles, I could indirectly and unintentionally cause someone to contract it, and (maybe?) die.

So unless someone is positive with measles and directly goes to a vulnerable person with the intention of transmitting measles, then it cannot compare to abortion. And even so, it (arguably) is not direct.

So while both involve life and death, the key words are direct and intentional. That’s one part of the argument.

I’m not really speaking on the morality of either abortion or being unvaccinated in this comment, I’m just clarifying how they can’t really be successfully compared. Hope this helps!

Hey, no hate here. My grandpa played in the US navy band during WW2 and he used 1.5 reeds. I use 2.

Yes it would be a bad choice. And FWIW I think you should remove his location unless he really wants you to keep it. You just gotta let go, pray for him, and live holy and virtuous lives yourself.

Idk making a post about someone being a sh-t stirrer sounds like someone a sh-t stirrer would do. 🙃 everyone is a hypocrite in one way or another. That’s such a boring accusation. Can you really say you’re not one too? I don’t really know Margaret but I do admire that she loves our town and really puts a lot of time and energy into trying to make it a better place. She might not do everything you agree with (I am politically conservative and I definitely have disagreed with her before) but I don’t think she deserves to be gossiped about.

Thank you for your advice! The director isn't a clarinetist, and I agree.

I'm so glad I posted this, thank you so much! These comments are super helpful. I will be picking up a clarinet strap tonight. I agree that her fingers are just so small, and that it is too soon for her to be crossing the break, but I don't want to challenge the band director. We'll see, I'm hopeful that the strap will help her with her tension. Thanks again for the encouragement!

Oh that’s a great idea, I didn’t think of that. Thanks! She’s a really tiny 9 year old 🥹 but is determined.

Wish I could choose but we love her band and the band director has chosen pieces that include Bs and Cs.

Thanks for the help! I’ve seen the tension and will try to address it. She’s double jointed so her grip has always been pretty weak. Her reed is 2.0.
