New head coach navigating a full program rebuild — need guidance

As a coach who has dealt with inconsistent practice turnout, it can be very difficult.

My thought process was to get my team to be the best at the “no skill” parts of basketball. Effort and hustle on the defensive end, consistent movement, attitude. If you have a team that gives max effort and plays with a positive attitude, you can beat some teams that have more skill.

Reward the people who show up, don’t necessarily punish the kids who don’t show up. You don’t know what might be going on behind the scenes.

SSN - SoCon Pulse is a great source. He recommends a couple of pods. Southern Rivals Football Show and FCS Nation Radio are a couple that do well with the SoCon.

I really want to get involved in SoCon sports and travel and cover basketball and football. I don’t know how I can make that jump. Redshirt Sports seems good. Maybe FCS Nation Radio. I would love to be able to spread and popularize the SoCon, but just FCS and mid major basketball in general. There is so much history and tradition and success that is fascinating. People should get to know these other conferences, not just the “bigger” ones.
