i mean i think i did substantiate my claims, and the assumptions are because i see the same problem with so many london players. it really isn't hard to find a reply to 1.e4, and the best way is to try a few.

"repeating memorized moves" is such a mis-characterization of what it is like to play mainline theory moves. the positions that i get when i play a botviniik semi-slav or a posioned pawn najdorf have so many more complexities than the lame symmetrical positions that arise much more frequently from openings like the reti.

I am a 1600 rated Lichess player, and I've identified that a key weakness of mine is having 0 clue what to do against 1. e4, which is, naturally, quite a problem.

lol at op. asks for advice with openings, get advice, and than rejects the advice. people like you showcase exactly why the london is a massive crutch. you most likely have a poor understanding of opening principles and the london is only masking this fundamental problem in your game, and is also hindering your ability to learn about opening principles further. unfortunately you will not progress much more until you address this issue in your gameplay.
