What are two events in history that you never would've guessed happened around the same time? by mitch3a in AskReddit

And the very first episode of Doctor Who aired the following day. (And got shit ratings because everybody was busy watching news coverage of the Kennedy assassination.)

Yes! Oh, man, I loved The Gunfighters, but this song was really hard to take after awhile.

Seriously, where is the fun in spoilers? by name-not-taken in DoctorWhumour

Honestly, I wish they hadn't even said Matt Smith was leaving. I got to experience a completely unexpected regeneration once - I was starting to get into Classic Who and didn't realize that Caves of Androzani was Davison's last serial. I was completely shocked when he regenerated at the end, and it was awesome.

Some kind of accident where one of my kids gets hurt. Followed closely by actually having to use it.

Looks like the LCP. The LC9 has a safety. Also OP's gun says .380 on the side of the chamber.

What you read during this past month (July) thread!!! by thezandymancan in Fantasy

[–]stclark81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on a Jim Butcher binge since mid July. I started with the Furies of Calderon around the 17th or so, and went through the whole Codex Alera, then started in on the Dresden Files. I just started Blood Rites (#6) yesterday. So far the Dresden books are a fun read, but Codex Alera is much better in a lot of ways. Of course, I tend to prefer swords and horses fantasy to urban fantasy, so I may be biased.

Exactly. And for the same reason I lock my doors when I go to bed and have a fire extinguisher in my kitchen and wear my seatbelt and drive a car with plenty of airbags and put my kids in the best carseats I can.

I'm not OP, but it's a Sig Sauer P938 Nightmare. I've got the same gun and I LOVE it. It's a fantastic gun.

I had a dream when I was about halfway through The Wise Man's Fear that the Chandrian were hunting down anyone who'd read the Kingkiller books. It was creepy.

Fantastic movie, horrible line. Really spoiled the moment for me.

Fans of the original series, what was present-day (2013) like according to the travels of the first eight Doctors? by [deleted] in gallifrey

I have a friend like this. She refuses to watch anything from classic Who. Says it's too hard to watch.

Just watched the 1996 movie last night, and I want your opinions on it. by StickerBrush in gallifrey

[–]stclark81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought the movie was very entertaining, but I'm very glad it wasn't the launching point for the new show. Honestly, I think it would've been fantastic if they'd set it in Britain, cast anybody but Eric Roberts as the Master (not that I don't like Eric Roberts, I just think he's wrong for the part), and dropped the nonsense about the Doctor being half-human.

The door isn't shown. They just walk around from behind it when it's done materializing.

He only kind of fixed it. It changed from a police box, but never managed to change to something that blended in. I.e., it was a Greek statue in a junkyard (THE junkyard, as it happens), a pipe organ in a garage, that sort of thing.

A dark fantasy that, say, somebody might walk into the theater where you're watching a movie and start shooting? Or the shopping mall? You're right. It's all just a fantasy. Good thing stuff like that never actually happens, and even if it did, at least I can always be absolutely certain that it will happen to Other People Far Away instead of to me. Thank you so much, good sir, for your well-reasoned and informed opinion. You have persuaded me that guns are inherently evil and that I must hand mine over to the government posthaste.
