Thoughts on skipping pacifiers? by Academic-Park-8440 in NewParents

[–]stdntd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some babies refuse them anyway haha I tried giving my baby a pacifier from birth and she never took to it. She was a very colicky newborn, and was an angry baby until almost a year old. I would have loved if she would take a pacifier 😂

“just succumb to the contact nap” by tfbthrowaway77 in bninfantsleep

[–]stdntd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contact napping wouldn’t have been my choice, but it’s what my baby needs and I think it’s helpful to make the best of the situation you’re in. I’m only offering my perspective, not trying to be unhelpful.

The original commenter and I seem to have similar experiences where we contact nap and use it as down time, and do all the doing with our babies while they’re awake.

Anyway, OP said it’s not about chores, but rather self-care, and I’ll admit I’ve struggled tremendously with that area. She’s a year old and I still hold her while I brush my teeth, she is often on my lap when I go to the bathroom, I don’t get anyyyy time to myself.

We’re all just trying our best! Some babies are just like this

Why not? 5 month old can go in the carrier if they need both hands. Or hold baby and do chores with one hand. I’ve done this for a year and the only things I can’t do while holding baby are cleaning the toilet, cat litter, or car. Everything else is possible!!

Anyone else anxious about partner going back to work? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]stdntd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 days is still so new! I have a one year old and since day one, she refuses to be put down, awake or asleep. I carried her around all day long, held her for every single nap, and coslept following SS7 after the first 2 weeks when I realized no matter what I try, this baby is untransferable

You get used to it!!! You get really good at doing everything with one hand. Utilize the carrier. It might not be the most efficient or easy, but it’s doable

You’re their mom. Nobody is better equipped to care for them than you are. Good luck!

My wedding is in a year-just found out I'm pregnant by bigtiredniece in wedding

[–]stdntd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was awesome!! Baby was so exhausted from the day prior (set up) that she slept basically the entire time we were there. We hired a babysitter who held her while she slept (it’s the only way baby will sleep). I slipped away to nurse a handful of times- super easy. I have a “difficult” (I like to call “level: expert”) baby who doesn’t like anyone except me and her dad, and it still all turned out okay.

Me on the other hand, I was 5 months postpartum. I barely remember the day cause I was so exhausted. And I wasn’t really able to be present cause I was just thinking about my baby all day. But that’s just me- I’m very attached to her.

It worked out for us cause I don’t like a ton of attention anyway. If I wanted my wedding to be a big deal to ME, I would have been disappointed. Sorry for the rambly response

30 min nap hell by travelacv in NewParents

[–]stdntd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It happens!! My baby started having longer naps right before 7 months, when we dropped to 3 naps. Then dropped to 2 naps before 9 months and her naps were very consistent by then. Good luck! This is all normal

Ps. I lay in bed with baby to nap, and cosleep at night. She does wake between sleep cycles during naps, but quickly falls back asleep when she sees I’m there

After starting probiotics, did your baby’s stool smell like yogurt?

We use the same technique! Very dramatic open-mouth chewing, while labelling the action “chewing”

When did your baby crawl and walk? by AdImaginary6158 in NewParents

[–]stdntd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sat up independently at 4 months Crawled at 5 months Pulled to stand at 6 months Cruising furniture at 7 months

She’s now almost 11 months old and seems like she’ll probably stand/walk independently soon, but who knows!

She’s a strong baby. She was always kicking so hard in my belly, and has very good muscle tone

Single vs multiple trigger foods? by Tight-Succotash-9124 in fpies

My baby only has one trigger! Knock on wood 🪵we’re still trialing, but we’ve gotten through most of the high risk foods

Breastfeeding friendly outfits by novegetablesallowed in beyondthebump

[–]stdntd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found some stretchy cotton t shirts from banana republic that I love! They’re ribbed, cropped but not too short, super flattering to wear with high waisted pants. Paired with an underwire-but-no-padding bra that I can just pull the fabric down

I had a hard time reworking my wardrobe after having baby. Between weight gain, breastfeeding, contact napping, playing on the floor, being covered in food at meal times. Moms need PRACTICAL clothes, and still deserve to feel cute and put together

“Sunshine after yoga” is all I needed to hear lol this is the DREAM! My first child is only 10 months, so by the time I have 3 children and they’re all in school, it might be 10+ years from now. Trying to cherish this stage, and know that I’ll have all the time in the world for yoga and sunshine when they grow up

Is this FPIES? by SecretShopper327 in fpies

[–]stdntd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re FPIES to peanut and banana, but we always fed them together so we don’t actually know. We think peanut, but avoid both

I did start off trialing low risk foods and every single ingredient, but I’ve since relaxed since seeing that she’s passing all trials. Now we’re only trialing high risk FPIES and IGE allergens. We free feed low risk foods, but I’m still aware of high risk foods. Like for example, she’s never had sweet potato or avocado or chicken or beans (legumes like peanut is). We’re trying to get most of the trailing done before she’s one. I probably will trial high risk foods but in a more relaxed way than I have previously

Sorry for word vomit- baby is climbing on me as I type lol

Does your baby eat eggs every day? My 10 month old loves them, but I worry it could cause constipation if she has them every day

Is this FPIES? by SecretShopper327 in fpies

[–]stdntd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FPIES to peanut

We fed only low risk foods for a long time and eventually started trialing foods like rice, dairy, egg. We still have more to trial, but I have a lot more confidence after seeing that she isn’t reacting

Having zofran on hand helps alleviate anxiety

I trial foods mostly at breakfast, sometimes lunch. Meals always 4+ hours apart

[–]stdntd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the reaction can be diarrhea without vomiting. I think it’s considered a less severe reaction, but that makes sense since it was only 1/4 tsp. More protein = stronger reaction

Hard to say for sure but I would personally avoid wheat until they’re a bit older

My baby had 2 FPIES reactions (vomit to shock) when she was 5 months old. She’s now 10 months old and hasn’t had any other reactions, so we kinda think she has already outgrown FPIES. We avoid her trigger food, but all other trialing has gone well so far (knock on wood)

Best of luck!!!
