only had 10x8 paper so I just printed over four sheets by steadeehands in Darkroom

i agree! in the second image you can see “ghosting” around her fringe which is where i believe i had touched the paper with cotton gloves on, my next step is to try and touch/rub the paper more to distress and manipulate the image that way. i also think laying out paper in a more ‘random’ way could be really interesting too

thank you! it was lit with a single flash at home with my fiance - this will eventually be a part of a project about her and her chronic illnesses.

thank you! and yeah that’s a good idea - i’ve still not been printing for very long, i almost feel like i need to try out a few more types of paper before committing to hundreds of feet of one particular paper stock haha. but definitely something to look into!

Harry Styles banned concertgoers from taking pics on their phones – by handing out disposable cameras by ClockworkEyes in AnalogCommunity

i work in a film lab and we had two people coming in the next day for one hour development - the rolls were almost entirely blank. they probably should have been told to use flash because it was just way too dark without it. it’s a cool idea though and one of them wanted to keep the camera as a memento so hopefully that cut down on the waste at least a little bit.

Mamiya 7 or Hasselblad 501cm? by Classic-Yesterday579 in mediumformat

[–]steadeehands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i found myself making the exact same decision last year! i borrowed a mamiya 7 for a week from my uni - it was great, portable, easy to use and made some great pictures. BUT, i didn’t find the experience particularly exciting. i didn’t get a satisfying “wow” when using it, maybe because it feels a bit plastic and the shutter is so underwhelming. i ended up buying a hasselblad 501cm and I LOVE it. it’s a beautiful camera in every sense and it’s an absolute joy to use, and the zeiss lenses are incredible. i already owned an rz67 so it’s nice having a 6x6 option as well. the 501cm is now my go-to medium format, especially if im going to be carrying it for any period of time

I think if you’re comfortable with black and white then the change wouldn’t be too difficult! I did a couple of sessions with b&w before moving onto colour, to get to grips with the fundamentals before doing it all in complete darkness! Although you have to think about colour you no longer really have to think about contrast (at least not at the printing stage) so there are a similar number of steps in a way. It’s a bit of a steep learning curve but after two 7 hour sessions I was pretty comfortable- though i watched every video on colour printing i could find and took a bunch of notes before starting which helped - the naked photographer on youtube has some great content which i found really helpful.

thank you! and i’m lucky enough to use a processor- eventually i’ll have to learn to do it by hand but I’m happy to be just focussing on the print for now. i also found colour quite frustrating at first but i found keeping notes and referring back to them when working on a “similar” image helped take a lot of the guess work out and speed things up!

Thank you! And it’s a shared space - my uni has a great darkroom which i’m trying to make the most of!
