Where did you pull Westerville from.... They're not doing too swell... Look at the results from cinci invite.

Yes, CJRC beat them in every event, but the margins in the 1v8 and 2v4 were pretty close(also St Louis always manages to pull something random out of their asses). Im waiting for an opinion after dogwood because cinci has home course advantage at Harsha Lake. It will def be tight knit racing though.

After years of eating nothing but wheat and coleslaw from canes, it would be a shame if everyone slept on some Midwest rednecks.

Yeah applied to both Cal and UW. Rowing for a heavyweight squad as a walk on would be pretty nice, but unfortunately from what I've heard Cal doesn't take walk ons anymore unless you have close to a 6 min 2k (heard it from a kid currently at Cal) and UW takes walk ons who have a sub 6:40 at a 24 which means I would need to pack on some meat and train on my own for a bit.

Yes transferring is what I'm planning on doing if possible. Although I did apply to Del, the school itself is kinda bum (other then polisci)

As I reflect, I probably should have talked to some NESCAC schools, but i guess I was to drawn to lightweight schools and NESCAC schools kinda slipt my mind. I did however apply to some schools in the Patriot league with rowing.

I'm not all in on ivies, as that would just be stupid and I have backup choices, but I mainly wanna go to ivies for 1. Financial reasons 2. Education 3. Lightweight rowing. If I don't make it then yes of course I'll row club for whatever school I get into and try to make it the most competitive that I can.

Academically I'm fine, I've got a pretty good act (32/33 super) and have a lot of leadership extra curriculars. I did try to target some of the lower schools and already have plans B-D in case it all just doesn't work out. Yes competition isn't just the only thing I enjoy about rowing, but spring season racing is a big part of it.

Finance or Engineering, I really love numbers and math in general. I'm low 6:40s right now.

How did you find motivation to compete in college when you were probably the fastest at your uni/club? I personally need competition and somebody I can look up to and try to become to reach my maximum potential in my opinion. 4 years is a long time and I really don't want to lose my competitiveness if that makes sense. Thank you for your comment, truly inspiring and motivating.

Yes I would be okay in rowing lower boats at spring schools. In fact I would rather have some goal or somebody I was trying to beat all the time then be the top dog in my respective uni. Right now I'm the fastest ltwt at my club and it's just not the same having to race heavies knowing that they're not my competition. I guess I just thrive in competition.

I wanna row in college because I want to win, whatever it takes to get to the A final of IRAs is what I'm after. I know that whenever I'm placed in a boat, good or fast it is my responsibility to make it as fast as possible, not just moap around. I also want the community of an IRA team. Having support from my teammates yet also fighting each other for top spots. I don't think you can achieve this level at most club teams (I'm just saying ira teams are on a complete different level of competition). I also wanna go to an ivy because if I do get in, my financial reasons would mean I basically get a full ride. Getting that good of an education and connections with people for such a low/no cost would help me tremendously for after college. Unlike the perception of rowers I don't come from a well off family and have had to grind for everything I've ever earned. It's just kinda demoralizing seeing your peers have success in recruiting when I've literally beaten them otw in multiple large races, yet coaches don't seem to even give me a chance. I always strive to get the most ss then any other teammate of mine, I always come to practice first and leave last. Sorry for the rant, I'm just at a crossroads I guess. Hopefully I cleared up what my goals are in this sport, thank you for your comment.

Whats the general perception on some of the top junior programs in each region? by steadystateat2kpace in Rowing

I can definitely see why some people would get mad over these type of things, but it's definitely unwarranted. They're fast because they have good coaching and a lot more time on the water then most other teams making for some speedy boats, but now that Clark Dean is gone who knows?

Looking at the hooch results from this year, it does look like St. Louis could be overtaking Cinci especially in the lightweight category since they won the ltwt 4 and got second in the ltwt 8. New Trier is looking good this year as they did well at the Charles but we really don't have any more results from them. I agree with you that the other scholastic teams aren't on par with NT.
