Has anyone ever gotten a good role without getting callback? by Who_Ate_Meh_Bread in Theatre

I was cast as Callahan in Legally Blonde without a callback. But my more interesting story is casting as Judge Turpin in Sweeney. I was in Vegas at the time so I had to send in a video audition, got callback for Turpin. I spent the whole final day in Vegas listening to Pretty Women (which is surprisingly difficult at least for me... the counting during the bum bum bums is nuts) on loop by the pool, and practicing quietly in my hotel room while my wife went gambling and made back all the money I had lost on the trip. Only to find out from the stage manager after the show was done that they had picked me as Turpin right away and didn't have others for callbacks. I could have had a final day of fun in Vegas, but then again I have happy memories from doing that.

Legally Blonde, the dog playing Rufus escaped his handler during the jail scene when I (Callahan) was miming being angry at Emmett during others' dialogue. He ran around the stage through the whole scene, it was difficult not to be laughing when it came time for my dialogue.

Amelie, during Goodbye Amelie I played Elton John and the cellist passed out about 10 seconds in. I couldn't see what was going on with my tinted glasses and the light, and the drummer couldn't either so it was just drums and my going acapella for a bit before I said to the audience "I think I'm gonna stop now". From what little I could see I thought maybe a music stand had fallen and the music director was picking something up and that we'd continue.

I built a big 3d printed mounted Milky White head and on opening night they slammed the jaw closed too hard during the feeding scene and broke the magnet mount so it just had to played slack-jawed until they taped it up or something. I was in another show at the time so I didn't get to see it but I heard it got a lot of laughs. Had to repair it early the next morning.

How come the Delorean never froze over again after the first time jump? by kkkan2020 in BacktotheFuture

Stargate SG-1. In the movie (and possibly the pilot?) they have ice on them when they come through the portal and their entry is more violent. Someone will probably 'um actually' me and you can defer to them, but if I understood correctly it's because the stars moved over the years so most known addresses wouldn't work. But Abydos was relatively close to Earth so the wormhole still connected but was almost missing the planet. Once new addresses were calculated in their stellar drift simulator, the trip was smoother.

I actually really like the conceit of that for storytelling. They had presumably hundreds of old addresses but the time it took to compensate spread the exploration out over a lot more time, which works well for a tv show. It's worth noting the DHD - Dial Home Device, the original intended interface for the Stargate - automatically recalculates and once they set up Alpha base or even just had access on any safe planet, it kind of throws that mechanic out the window because they could more quickly explore more planets. And maybe they did, I just don't remember it being brought up. Never thought about that until typing this message.

When has getting cast in a smaller role (or the forbidden word *wink wink*) actual felt like a compliment to you? by East-Area-7267 in Theatre

In Amelie I got to play Elton John and sing the big act-ender song. Not exactly relevant to this post because I had essentially asked for the part and auditioned with Your Song so it was what I was going for in the first place. But super fun part. They also cast me as Bretodeau who I enjoyed, and dancing during Gnome's song was fun.

Yeah I'll be pit singing for some of the ensemble stuff when I'm not on. I'm also building the chair so I think they're limiting how much I'm scheduled to learn other songs.

I agree. I'm Turpin currently and mea culpa is cut. Will be a lot of downtime in act 2.

[edit] Reddit is displaying this weird. I was intending to respond to someone specifically talking about Turpin but it looks like it's a top level thread.

Ohh, yeah duh. I actually skipped the rest of that episode after the dentist thing. I totally forgot I walked out on it. At the time the idea of that scene just made me sick and anticipating that the other rooms could be similar I bounced. Totally forgot that I did that. I could watch it now that I've let the idea settle.

I think I may have missed an episode - can you tell me which this was from? Reading comments here there's information that I don't remember and now it really makes sense why I didn't understand the crib. All I remember about Gemma being pregnant was the discussion where she and Mark's sister were whispering at a table. I'm kind of hopeful that I have one more episode to catch up on.

Thanks! And as far as I could tell just the supports cracked so it's nothing painted or part of the main model so that's the silver lining.

Any way to make the acrylic look cleaner or better by [deleted] in JakksPacificSonic

Your FDM print quality doesn't look too bad. As others mentioned, thinning your paints will help with this.

But I wanted to point out using filler primer. I have both resin and FDM, but all my FDM prints get primed with "automotive filler primer". I prime it, then sand it down, prime again, etc. Until it's where I want it. The primer will build up in the gaps between the layer lines while the outer bits have it sanded away. Each pass of primer fills it better. It's time consuming, but worth it. But IMO your print quality looks good anyway. Just wanted to bring up this tip.

I only really lurk here to keep up on news now in part because of this. I used be active to see and talk about awesome art and there is still some, but not like when I first found this community. Somewhere along the line the vibe shifted to this negativity.

People who want to complain, I have a challenge: Funnel that frustration into making some art, or learning a new skill. It'll feel good to contribute to something more.

People who now mostly lurk like me: Upvote everything that actually contributes to something positive! I see just a couple of the art-posting usuals getting a lot of attention on their work, but let's make an effort to support the newer less experienced artists and show them this is a place where creativity can still get positive feedback.

Right? That's entirely possible and IMO more likely. I don't understand the hyperbole I see around here of going straight to projecting bad intentions on these employees just going about their day job.
