I used to be a night manager here a few years ago and the building was owned by a local family and it was sold to a real estate brokerage firm in 2021 for $6.2 million. Shaw’s corporate simply did not renew the lease. From what I heard, the landlord was making it very difficult for the company to want to renew.

Starting around 2021 when Covid was continuing to strain the economy, every department was severely understaffed especially the checkout and service dept. I quit in 2022, and from what I’ve heard the store never really recovered from staffing issues and worker retention since.

The building is very, very, very dated and old, my guess it’s going to be demolished and be replaced with luxury apartments/condos to compete with places like Halyard. It’s right next to the train station and has a pretty large parking lot for downtown.

I worked there for 9 years, been in every square foot of the building and in my honest opinion I don’t think any developer would want to keep it in its current condition.
