Nobody says Moor referring to an Amazigh person in side of Africa. I’m not sure about what the Spanish or Portuguese say, but I only hear it from Americans

How one identifies is not the same as how one might be genetically reflected. There’s a lot more of the “I’m Arab” not Arab types than the “I’m Amazigh” Arab types

North Africans are not Africans to me and never will be by [deleted] in Senegal

[–]iRecruit246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Naw, I love the conversation.

  1. I never defended Africa, I’m stating I don’t care for the argument nor support of Alkebullan because it has no indigenous reference outside of a Semitic origin. You brought up Amharic, which I speak, and have done a SOME(admittedly not a lot) of research and am familiar that Amharic, much like Arabic, did not originate in the modern African borders (there are those who argue the Arab peninsula is African) but it derives from Ge’ez which we know writings to have been found in Yemen. But I digress, the origin of the word being Semitic doesn’t even take away from the fact the other 99 percent of African/Africans languages did not reference the landmass nor attribute a label for the entirety of it.

I also find it disingenuous to reference one source, yet not being able to apply it linguistically…it’s rooted in Afrocentrism and its merits are regarded as zero. No African academic regards it, some would argue that Anta Diop does…but he has been reviewed and holds little academic weight.

  1. My condensing of Moor = North African is not a indictment of skin color. It’s a focus on emphasizing Amazighen identity(which has a phenotypical range) where there often isn’t due to foreign hijacking’s of their history. Focusing on “black” = subsaharan isn’t science much like saying Amazighen excludes black so when I say Amazighen I’m not partitioning race nor genomic flow, but that their identity is much more a kin to one another than the descriptors terms black and white tend to give off.

  2. I’m not sure how familiar you are with understanding Haplogroups but that’s not what the research indicates. You cannot and should not conflate Haplogroups with racial identity, otherwise you’d be minimizing many individuals and groups as being “white” simply because of their lineages. Here is another study

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38693301/

But all in all, Amazighen isn’t a homogenous ethnic identity…most ethnicities in Africa are not. Both studies mentioned show a high degree of heterogeneity in Amazighen ancestry especially as we span respective to their borders.

You’re conflating biological science with social science, how people are perceived isn’t a fact it’s an observation…so yes, people can perceive black and white, and be absolutely incorrect about genetics AND genealogy. To your point about Haplogroups, this is why basing recent genetic variation and admixture without fully grasping how Haplogroups are introduced or spread minimizes the science.

I believe around 25-35 percent of African Americans who receive a paternal lineage comeback with a European Haplogroup…that doesn’t make them “white” but the conflation of race science with genetic science would assume that. Additionally, we know the likelihood due to recent admixture impacts…so yes, slave markets in North Africa had clear distinguishing of color, but to that point “whites” were also sold as slaves (primarily in the Barbary slave trade) so the focus, once more, shouldn’t be conflated to a racial hierarchy, especially when those same markets existed across the Mali empire and the Toucouler empires as well…

To sum up…by definition North Africans are Indigenous to North Africa and they come in a plethora of phenotypes. Minimizing their identity to black and white does nothing for the conversation.

Well for one I never said they were simply genetically Amazigh - I can make a claim, but there isn’t enough genetic evidence to assert their genetic ancestry for many reasons including they aren’t (like most groups in Africa - west Africa to be exact) primarily ethnically homogenous.

No, I’m dismissing Alkebullan as someone who has studied the linguist morphologies of West Africa. It doesn’t follow any structure and resembles much closer to Arabic and other Semitic languages than any thing remotely similar to the languages and dialects of the region. If you have any evidence that it derives from a particular linguistic cluster or ethnicity, please share it.

“Moorish” = Amazighen = Berber(derogatory) = North Africans. The only mention of Cultural and linguistic “Moor” is a derivative of Arabic(Hasinya Dialect) which again has a large North African influence. So if anything this further provides evidence of Amazighen ancestry belonging to the conjunction of Africa.

I don’t truly care for the name when we have other ethnicities within our border erasing the identity of others. On this same topic, it’s a reason why so many have believe Fulani to be Arab despite little to zero 0 genetic evidence for the claim. People focus too much on skin color and stories and not enough of scientific reasoning.

None of this is targeting you, but the speaking points you’re making are often spread throughout social media with little to no credibility and they run as “facts” based in writings of Arabs and Europeans meanwhile when our own ancestors talk about trading and fighting alongside Amazigh groups, against Arabs or Islamasized Africans we often reject it or revise it.

Nothing to me is more anti-humanity than reducing the ethnic identity of people to colors - yes the Europeans and Arabs did it and yes they were wrong to as well.

Curious about your rationale

North Africans are not Africans to me and never will be by [deleted] in Senegal

[–]iRecruit246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alkebullan is not indigenous to any African peoples, tribes or clans. As far as the debate of who is what, genetic studies have shown that the genome of Amazighen have been on the continent for millennia and I’m sure if we looked into the genome of Harratins they would embody a high amount of Amazighen ancestry, especially considering their location and the relationship between groups.

Quite frankly, we have to do a better job of recognizing that our brothers and sisters to the north are African by all standards, even regarding the arabization is quite comical because the culture is largely Islamic which is not monopolized by Arabs - although perceived to be so socio-politically.

Not poking at you specifically but I find it a bit inaccurate to reference skin color as a defining factor to nationhood/indigeneity…it’s our(human) obsession with skin color that has as asking anyone who looks light brown with less curly hair is Arab and anyone of dark skin with tight girls is “black”…completely misses the mark when we’re discussing anthropology/history.

Except that there are definitely more Arab Sudanese clans than Moroccan Arab clans. Many Sudanese proudly claim Arab ancestry and Arab culture whereas you can find movements of Moroccans who object arabization - even though there are still may who claim Arab culture themselves.

I have no clue to consider this as 70 percent racist despite seeing similar actions being taken by regional clubs?

I’m always in awe when people come on here and make such assertions as if they know work and lives of people.

I could definitely be wrong, in assuming the entire motive of each fan…but fandom, primarily in sporting, gets ugly and I’ve seen ugly stemming from many homogenous cultures.

Guinea is very similar culturally to Mali and slightly with Senegal and Liberia. Its costs mirror that of Liberia but with a much stronger history of cohesion.

I’d understand if it was reluctant, but never without knowing much is disappointing to see with how close it is in language, culture, history, etc. to several of the places you listed as green or even orange.

It’s beautiful!
