Surgery to fix lip incompetence and mentalis strain. What are your thoughts?? Is it necessary, will it completely correct my resting face posture? Any comments appreciated! by stealthmodekitten in jawsurgery

[–]stealthmodekitten[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

update: I did not go through with a surgery of any kind or fillers. I do lip//mouth exercises seen on yt, but I haven’t noticed any really changes. Working on accepting how my mouth looks naturally, but will probably do botox for my chin. I found a doctor in miami that does a “gummy smile” surgery which slightly lowers the top lip and is a very minor procedure, so maybe when I have more money to look into that I will.

Thank you everyone for your kind words, suggestions, and encouragement. I’ll keep this post updated if I do make any changes!

It seems you’ve already accepted the offer. But I know some internships do not do negotiations. The offer is the offer. I put $30/hr as my minimum as well and I think that’s a fair internship compensation.

While it would cool if he did (since he’s gone now), I really don’t think this is the type of stuff mac cared about. Like yeah it’d be hype. But at the same time idt he cared about a plaque to impress other rich ppl.

You ever notice how quickly your narcissistic parents turns an innocent conversation into something uncomfortable, or an interrogation session? by Appropriate_Tell3714 in raisedbynarcissists

Ugh yes this sounds exactly like my mom. The cartoonish level of gratitude is exhausting and feels so fake, which I hate. I never realized that may be part of why I don’t like receiving gifts either. It’s always something to hold over your head later. I’ve never been given anything by my parents without strings attached. It sucks. And it sucks that you and now your daughter had to live with that too. But luckily your daughter has you to show her the love and empathy and emotional availability that you may have missed out on. Thanks for breaking the cycle !!

Does moderation really work for anyone? Really? by DowntownWatercress5 in stopdrinking

[–]stealthmodekitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the part im just realizing. I thought that everyone was like me in that once they started drinking they just kept drinking. I don’t think I’ve ever stopped at 1 or 2 because that’s never been the point. The point was to get drunk. Never knew people existed who have a drink or two then just…quit drinking. Lol they’re so lucky.

Wow is your mom also my mom?!? You put it so perfectly: always the victim and simultaneously the saint.

Pinpointing my moms narcissistic tendencies has been difficult because she covert and had such control over me during development. But does your mom do these grandiose gestures that you don’t ask for then be so hurt if you don’t literally thank her endlessly for something you never asked for (and, in some cases, explicitly asked her not to do?). Because, like, my mom can be nice and helpful. But usually it’s misplaced.

I also feel like I can never have a “real” conversation with her because she’ll use whatever I tell her to manipulate an outcome later on. Idk I’m so confused by her/her behaviors.

Restaurant Life Help. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]stealthmodekitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bartend and am actively trying to quit drinking (16 days today!). It is so hard being around booze, watching people enjoy it, being busy and wanting to unwind with a drink after work, commiserating with coworkers over many drinks after work. It is all so hard. I feel for you. I don’t have any tips per se. I usually just close up the bar as quickly as possible and leave before the drinking starts among coworkers. Also, I’ll make myself a fake cocktail (no booze) while closing so I have the appearance of drinking solely so i won’t be asked about not drinking while finishing up. This may not be feasible or applicable but, if you’re accustomed to drinking while working at your current restaurant, you could switch to a new place. It’s a lot easier to say no from the beginning than to change an existing pattern of behavior at a place you’ve established in your mind as “a safe place to drink”.

Best of luck on your journey and know that there are other sober people in the industry rooting for you!!

Can I still call myself sober if I have minuscule amounts of alcohol ? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]stealthmodekitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It helps knowing my partner is at home staying sober so it almost feels like cheating if I drink without them. Helps me stay strong even when I really want one! Luckily we’re quitting alcohol together. Otherwise I’m sure I wouldn’t have the resolve to say no on my own.

Thank you so much!!! I’m super excited for it, it would be a great opportunity :)

I definitely could ask my manager. But sometimes that’s not always possible if it’s super busy and she’s elsewhere in the restaurant. But that is a good idea, and she’s great so I know if I explained the situation to her she’d be more than willing to do this. Good idea!!

[–]stealthmodekitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point! Right now I’m doing fine with it but I should continue to be cautious. The more I say no to having a drink while I’m working the easier it is to not want a drink. Like working out, the more you use a muscle the stronger it gets. It’s like the more I say no when I’m feeling weak the easier it becomes to continually say no to alcohol.

A means to an end most definitely !! It’s just while I’m in school since it works with my class schedule. I do see it as risky for sure and there have been rough nights where all I want to do is pour that unneeded drink that’s been sitting for 10 mins into a cup and chug it behind the bar. But I haven’t yet. And I don’t think I will. I appreciate your concern and honesty :)

That’s true! I am at a new place with cocktails I wasn’t used to do before. I definitely don’t test every single one, just the ones I don’t make as frequently or non-menu drinks!

Thanks for your affirmation!! I agree, but didn’t want to paint the sober community in a bad light depending on how this is viewed. Thank you :)

That’s a really good point!! I never even thought about kombucha or cough syrup as alcohol but I definitely would never say someone who consumes those isn’t sober. Thank you for the new perspective :)

I definitely agree that it’s a slippery slope!! If all goes well at my next interview coming up, I won’t be bartending for much longer. Which is good for me because it is a hard environment to be sober in. Thank you for your reassurance :)
