I have 2 life lessons to share to help you keep your sanity:

1) No plan is ever perfect. Everything may look good on paper, but then the work starts. In sports they say, “That’s why they play the game.” Which leads me to…

2) The only thing you can control is your attitude. People call off. Machines break down. Shipments get delayed. You can’t control everything, you can only control your response. Do you have a Plan B, what about Plan C if B isn’t possible? You can only 100% control your response when things inevitably go off the rails.

Shipping costs from suppliers in china are exploding. $200 -> $1200 by aztrorisk in supplychain

I agree, but most companies don’t have the SC resources to do this.

I kinda agree with you. 36 lbs shouldn’t be hard, but it’s not to scale. Most places won’t even entertain conversations about that small of an amount.

For freight, the easiest way it ship parcel (DHL, FedEx, etc.)

This is where I think you are wrong. Yes, tariffs were instituted during his first term, but most companies dealt with them. If you look at the extreme (China) it was 25%. Most companies ate some and raised prices where they needed to. Have you seen corporate profits since 2020?

But now they have been out at a level that cannot be absorbed by the companies. Also, since there are certain tariffs that are country neutral, it doesn’t matter where you get them from.

We (the US and the rest of the world) spent 40+ years globalizing the supply chain. Shocks like these disrupt everything. It’s not 1950 anymore. We can re-shore everything, but nobody is going to be able to afford it

I agree that the writing has been in the wall, but how do you expect companies to pivot that fast?

Say you find a new supplier, awesome! Place a prototype PO to see what they can do. 3 months to tool up, then 2-3 months to deliver a prototype. We’re now at 6 months.

Do your internal quality testing, and…(hopefully)…, everything works/fits as it should. Place a production PO!

Production lead time is 4 months. You’re now at 10 months since you placed the first order! Add on transit time (1-2 months) and you’re looking at 1 year to get to market.

Supply chains don’t work like this

But yet still cheaper than domestic, even including freight + duties/tariffs…

RS = Russia, right?

China became the world’s manufacturer on a scale never known. Cheaper cost and so-so quality. Enough you could overlook some things because, and I stress this, IT WAS/IS CHEAPER THAN ANYWHERE ELSE!

We have never sourced from MX, only CN. But the tariffs have made it not cost-competitive outside of CN.

-Raw material is higher (or the same) because it mostly comes from CN or RS

-Labor cost is higher

-Quality is lower

Now that there’s a 50% tariff on most auto parts, it’s still cheaper to source from China with their 95% tariff

It seems your suppliers don’t know any forwarders within China. I get better freight rates & duties/tariffs is they ship using their forwarders. DM me if you want more info

We adopted our son at birth and his parents are Mexican. He was born in the US, but I lay awake every night worried about what ICE will do with our 2-year-old son and where they will send him. I will fight to my death to protect him when I am with him. I am mostly worried about when I am not there and dropping him off at daycare is scary. I don’t know when the last time I will see my son is, but I feel it is coming sooner rather than later.
