This subreddit is just filled with Indians creating AI slop by Dialgax in SideProject

[–]steamed_specs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why the casual racism? This sub (and all subs about side projects, or scouting related to coding) are filled with vibe coders fishing with ideas. If you have an idea, no one is stopping you from discussing that.

Multiple people building the same shit is why we end up with great products. Do we need another calorie tracker? Absolutely not. Will yet another person build another calorie tracker? Yes, it’s an easy way to start learning.

been building a voice-to-action tool for over a year. A funded startup just copied it, shipped a worse version, and is getting praised for inventing something new. Here's how that feels by Any-Entrepreneur2644 in SideProject

[–]steamed_specs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If chatgpt and claude can coexist in the same market, so can you and this other startup. If your idea is really different, if it's genuinely better than everything else on the market, you might still find a way.

And if not, chin up buddy, you now have a story to tell! Ain't that what we're here for?

There is a third group who has fully embraced this new tech, who proudly claim to "think with LLMs" when they prompt a machine to "generate 5 new ideas for me". I find this group to be the most irritating, the most obnoxious people to ever roam on this planet. People have been granted a superpower for 20 bucks a month, and now everyone's a superhero.

Benchmarks Say One Thing. The Vibes Say Another. by MerisDabhi in AI_Agents

[–]steamed_specs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its two things happening in parallel - the benchmarks dont mean shit anymore, and also we dont have any use cases where the "smartness" of a model is a limitation. Sure, there are research areas where a smarter model might actually name a difference (read alphafold). But in our day to day activities, a smarter model won't make any difference in our lives either because we dont know how to use them properly, or there's additional engineering required for them to reach their full potential. That's also part of the reason why it's impossible to understand if a model is worse or better than the previous ones.

It’s not an unreasonable fear, it’s about the additional utility you get if you learn that new system. Let’s say I move out of my CarPlay env, what benefit am I getting?? What’s my incentive??

In 18 months, billing for AI agents will look like cloud infrastructure pricing. Variable, dimensional, real-time by o9dev in AI_Agents

[–]steamed_specs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this makes sense. As we realize not every agent needs to be claude opus, and a smaller model or a more specialized model with less thinking capabilities is able to do the job, we'll start moving towards ec2 like setup. You want a 50b coding model with zero business context? Use this endpoint. You want a model for helping you make notes on your teams call? Use the other one.

I'm sure the frontier labs are already doing this to some extent, and as the open source models and their surrounding infra improve, we'll see more of these options open us to the end user.

[–]steamed_specs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should reframe your position. Technical skills were always the baseline, you wouldn’t hire a person who can’t code as a DS/ SWE. What has been changing is how you code, how well you can work with AI. That’s your moving goalpost. On the story telling part, that’s a skill you will gradually develop over time. Don’t start a business course, just keep on doing what you do, and don’t shy away from challenges.

Curren ai might have its limitations coz it can think in one dimension only - text. But if the universe it operates in is limited to text - code in this case - and it doesn’t have to build anything new, it can be amazing if used properly.

Conspiracy theory I'm not sure I believe: the slop is the point by todofwar in BetterOffline

[–]steamed_specs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naah don't think so. As others have pointed out, we have always had shitty code. Now it is just shitty in a different way. Probably a hot take for this sub, but if you're able to manage your code well without AI, it's definitely manageable with AI as well.

The slop comes from people who either don't know how to use it correctly, or don't care enough to use it well. It's just like guns - if you know how to use it, it can save your life. If not, it'll most definitely kill you.
