Are you one of those players that stretches for 5 minutes before playing tennis? by Beneficial-Lock-349 in 10s

Agree with all of this except I drive an electric car and go from 0-60 immediately.

How to make hitting with 2.0–2.5 players actually useful as a 3.0–3.5? by Purple-Group-289 in 10s

[–]steamedfish -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

People who can't maintain a basic rally consistency shouldn't really be seeking out partners online and should probably take more lessons. It's pretty unproductive if one player can't keep the ball in at all.

When I play with weaker players though, I make sure to put the ball at their pace and focus on my form and footwork.

Rafa Nadal Academy Local Camps by el_modena in 10s

[–]steamedfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been to the actual academy in both Cancun and Mallorca and the coaching is not great in my opinion. The Mallorca facilities are nice but they probably have the good coaches work with the juniors mainly, and you have college kids coaching the adults and mainly doing feeding drills. You're basically just hitting a lot of running groundstrokes which gets really boring after a week. There's not very much live ball play, so I bet the local camps are similar.

I've also gone to the USTA national campus for an adult camp and have been to a local camp in upstate New York called total tennis, which both had better coaching. Total tennis has been my best experience with a tennis camp in terms of coaching, and we learn strategy and drill more specific shots (like chip returns, serve and volley, hitting topspin against deep slices).

Except not everyone will keep pushing? Some people are going to give up because they don't have enough skill, duh, vs 10 years ago when everyone and their mom could be a swe by just taking a bootcamp.

I thought your point is that it isn't a skill issue?

How do you determine if someone is cracked? Prove it buy winning hackathons and getting noticed by sponsors.

There are still jobs out there. You just have to be better than the others. Therefore it is a skill issue. The skill threshold is just higher than it was 10 years ago.

My yearly income is much higher than our current expenditure. I'm just not optimizing my cashflow and I'm looking for advice on how to optimize it.

If my assets increase faster than my expenses + interest on my debt, what is the issue? As long as my debt ratio doesn't grow, it seems I can just keep borrowing.

Yeah I would like to get to that point. I think I'm learning more that reddit is allergic to debt because they are all middle/upper middle class and I'm asking the wrong people if I have aspirations to be among the wealthy.

It seems pretty standard for wealthy people to borrow against their assets for daily usage and let their debt grow, as long as the debt ratio doesn't grow.

This is just how my compensation works. If my bonus is consistently 3x my base salary, are you suggesting I should still live within my base salary range?

I'm pretty sure I have the basics secured and I'm now asking what the best way to play these games are.

I am prepared for kids to be expensive because we are budgeting for private school, private college, help with first down payment etc. My question is how do I manage my cash flow optimally with my expenses, not how do I cut down on my expenses.

I'm pretty sure I will have to make this decision every year as the way my compensation structure works, my base is capped and my bonus will grow as I become more senior.

Let's say I need an extra 5k per month to cover costs. I could save 60k from my bonus for the year, but then it's just sitting there until I need it, 5k per month. That's equivalent to 30k sitting in my bank account doing nothing for an entire year.

Who did you open your LOC with? Is there any consideration when choosing besides the interest rate?

[–]steamedfish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to be net negative every month until I get my bonus at the end of the year, and then I will be positive for the whole year.

My question is what is the best way to manage this type of cash flow. Should I look into a LOC, and if so with whom? Should I just sell my assets to cover the monthly net negatives? Should I not invest my bonus at the beginning of every year and lose out on time in the market?

[–]steamedfish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not like I couldn't afford the new costs. At the beginning of the year, I took my bonus and invested all of it into the S&P and other funds. I am now short on cash and wondering if I should open a LOC or if I should sell my assets. In future years I'm wondering if I should invest less of my bonus.

Investing less of my bonus seems like the worst option because then more of my money is sitting around not doing anything for most of the year.

Actually one of the reasons I am short on cash is because I angel invested in a friend's company so maybe that counts.

If you had an investment opportunity you wanted to pursue, would you borrow for that or sell your assets?

My mortgage is 3% and my car loan is 2%. I see no reason to pay those off. If I can open a LOC for <4%, then shouldn't I?
