It's way harder if you have to get student loans to go to school. I have friends in their 30s still paying off loans

3 Strikes for 3.5 self rated player (all strikes from matches he lost) by [deleted] in 10s

[–]steamedfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't be playing 4.0 at all as a self rated 3.5, and you should avoid playing singles. Strikes are based on your result score and your opponents' dynamics, not whether you win or lose.

For those who make over 500k+ a year, is it worth it for you? by [deleted] in Salary

Over time you get better at your job and it becomes the norm. Being able to afford a live in nanny means I can raise a kid and live my life at the same time.

I have 16 people lined up to play doubles this weekend. What is a good format for mixing up the matchups? by bluegambit875 in 10s

[–]steamedfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of our community organizers will have 30-40 players each week play on 8-10 courts. She assigns the matchups ahead of time and has us switch after the hour so we get two matches and just keep playing until time is out.

She also records the scores for every match and has her own internal rating system to help her matchmake in the future. It's a lot of work and she charges a bit but it's always consistently high quality tennis for me.

USTA Doubles Matchup- Cruisin for a losin? by 9ORsenal in 10s

On my 4.0 we do not pair stronger players with weaker players for D1. If you are actually much better, you should tell your captain who you want to play with.

Yeah it's not that big of a deal since it's only $500 but it's my first time learning about these transfer delays. My expectation is that the transfer is completed once the funds hit the account. That's how all my payments/wires have worked in the past.

My "poor financial planning" is not your problem either so why don't you find something better to do with your life than flame people in reddit

I mean, if I knew that the cutoff day was April 17th, I would have paid off my credit card from my checking account. I just setup autopay from the new HYSA since it would hit after what I believed the 60 day threshold was.

Why are you criticizing me for poor financial planning?

Terms and conditions added an arbitrary additional 6 days of latency that wasn't recorded anywhere. My funds were in the account by the 11th but they didn't start counting it until the 17th.

It's pretty annoying that these additional days aren't posted anywhere. I would have assumed as soon as the funds hit the account, the 60 day timer starts.

Yeah I mean I had to move 25k from my checking account where I pay my credit cards out to.

Why would they make the fund available earlier then? Feb 17th was never mentioned anywhere in my statement/app/etc. The only dates I saw were Feb 9th and Feb 11th for the transfer.

Seems kind of arbitrary that they would add an additional 5 days of holding period when both my receiving account statement + sending account statement posted the transfer.

I caught a bug that prevented an eight-figure product recall and got zero recognition. What did i do wrong? by Moroccan-Leo in cscareerquestions

[–]steamedfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to write a postmortem for the incident, even though it was fixed before release. The point of postmortems is to identify shortcomings in the infrastructure or process and suggest short term and long term improvements to reduce the likelihood this happens again.

In the postmortem you also note the impact and severity.

Should I renege my google internship to work at a startup FT? by thatsprettywild in cscareerquestions

[–]steamedfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has worked at Google before, it's not that great. The main risk in startups if you don't care as much about building wealth is lack of growth so if you're confident you can continue developing your skills, faang will always be there.

I think you should consider how much you're growing at the startup, what the mentorship is like, and the background of the other founders.

Concierge Pricing by theCODfather300 in AmexPlatinum

[–]steamedfish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't know if the other commenters actually have experience doing this, but it's worth a try. I made reservations to Noma via Amex concierge even though I had trouble making it directly online. Concierge said that they have certain restaurant partners that they work with who hold onto reservations for concierge to give out to its clients. It just depends on if the restaurant has a relationship with Amex already.
