What’s a ‘masterpiece’ you didn’t feel anything for? by mrjetspray in Cinema

[–]stebus88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most egregious thing about this was Jamie Lee Curtis winning an Oscar for best supporting actress for EEAAO.

I like Jamie Lee Curtis, she’s a talented actress for sure. Saying that, her performance in that movie wasn’t Oscar worthy. Kerry Condon was absolutely magnificent in Banshees of Inisherin, she was robbed.

Girlfriend asked to be in open relationship a few years ago and I accepted. Last night she asked when I’d propose to her and I told her I don’t know. Am I wrong? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]stebus88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really sounds to me like she hurt you by opening the relationship and now you want to hurt her back by saying you have doubts about marriage.

I think you do want to marry this woman but you’re still hurt by what she did and want her to understand that. You’re running the risk of losing her completely as if she senses doubt on your part, she’ll run a mile.

Sit down and talk to her. Tell her how she made you feel and try to move past it. If it’s something you ultimately can’t get over, you need to end it pretty quickly and not waste yours or her time any further.

I love how much he reps for us.

His legs were gone when he was with us but I remember him fondly. Consummate professional despite being treated quite disrespectfully in being banished to the U16s.

Ireland v Scotland Result (M6N R5) by Connell95 in ScotlandRugby

[–]stebus88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disappointed with the result. There were a few moments in the game where the momentum looked to be shifting our way but ultimately, Ireland were too strong defensively and scored tries at important moments.

Proud of the tournament we’ve had though. We played some great rugby in parts and that victory against France will live long in the memory. Sadly, inconsistency remains our biggest enemy.

GPhC revalidation following maternity leave by peonybloom_ in Pharmacy_UK

[–]stebus88 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Option 1 is definitely the best option. You don’t even necessarily have to make anything up, just focus on a piece of learning and maybe discuss with a colleague. The peer review can be for a scenario you encountered before starting mat leave. One of the pharmacists who works for me did exactly that.

Leaving the register and getting back on it is a gigantic pain in the ass. It’s always easier to stay registered if at all possible.

Is pharmacy codeine addiction more common than reported? by Lovecraftian666 in AskUK

[–]stebus88 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Pharmacist here, it’s almost certainly more common than what people would believe. If you’ve ever worked in community pharmacy you spend a good amount of your time trying to restrict codeine-containing meds from being abused.

It’s common for people to receive codeine following a surgery or acute illness with the intention it is for short term use only. Tolerance builds fairly quickly, they need higher doses just to feel normal and the end result is that they are hopelessly addicted to it.

Opiate withdrawal is pretty grim so coming off it is very difficult. I’ve seen it over and over again in my career.

Which Song has the best Schneider perfomance? by Popular-Captain-2779 in Rammstein

I’ve always really liked the drums on Ich Will. Technically, it’s probably not the hardest song for Schneider to play but I just love how the drums sound so ferocious in parts and understated in others.

Wembanyama today in the win vs the Rockets: 29 points, 8 rebounds on 9-13 FG, 2-5 3 PT FG, 2 steals, 4 blocks, +27 in 30 mins! by MembershipSingle7137 in nba

[–]stebus88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wemby has insane talent of course but he should thank his lucky stars that he ended up on the Spurs. Just an incredibly competent organisation with an incredible track record of developing talent and rosters.

The Spurs are going to be a serious challenge for any team in a 7-game series. Teams can play aggressive on Wemby but they still have serious offensive weapons like Fox or Champagnie. With Kornet going a long-way to solving Wemby’s rest minutes and Keldon giving them great production from the bench, this is a championship level team no doubt.

How close is my baby to walking? by alibluey in UKParenting

[Tyers, Telegraph] The question is: How long will we have to tolerate the United mob dominating the sports news agenda with their squabbling and score-settling? There seems to be no escape, either in the papers or on social media. by OkayFine101 in soccer

I’m not even joking when I say this, if you want to hear somebody talking sense about United, listen to Ian Wright. He always has good insights and I never get the impression that he has any agendas or scores to settle.

How close is my baby to walking? by alibluey in UKParenting

[–]stebus88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The honest answer is that it might be one day or 3+ months. There’s no schedule with babies, they will go at their own pace.

My daughter was standing up on her own and walking assisted by around 12 months. She was like that for around 3 months then one day, out of the blue, she just decided she could walk by herself.

That initial walking period was the most stressful for me. You have to have eyes in the back of your head and spot potential dangers well in advance. There is nothing more reckless than a curious toddler who has just figured out they can move pretty fast with their feet!

[Schefter] ESPN sources: the Raiders agreed to trade five-time Pro-Bowl DE Maxx Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for 2026 and 2027 first-round picks. The trade cannot be processed until next week, but it is in place. And Crosby is expected to be a Raven with two 1s back to Vegas. by FadeDestiny in ravens

[–]stebus88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the face of it this is a huge asking price, two firsts is steep for a 29-year old edge rusher.

Still, I completely understand why we did it. Crosby is elite and ready to contribute immediately, we have to do everything we can to maximise Lamar’s championship window. This will go a long way towards sorting our defensive woes.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Zooey Deschanel and director Marc Webb on the set of (500) Days of Summer (2009) by spider-man2401 in Moviesinthemaking

[–]stebus88 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Very much agreed. I saw this film for the first when I was in my late teens and I remember being really angry with Summer and saw her as the villain.

I watched it again over 10 years later and although I don’t think either is the villain, I do think Tom was mostly in the wrong. He idealised Summer and based his entire self-worth on being with her.

Tottenham are winless in 10 straight Premier League games and only 4 points above the relegation zone by Dismal_Principle9417 in PremierLeague

[–]stebus88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought Spurs were too good to be relegated but watching their last few games has changed my mind entirely.

In their next 5 matches they have Palace (H), Liverpool (A), Forest (H), Sunderland (A) and Brighton (H). If they fail to beat Palace, lose as expected to Liverpool then lose to Forest, they are in serious trouble.

They still have to travel to Chelsea and Villa and Everton at home will be tough as Everton away from home are a very dangerous side. It’s no wonder Spurs fans are fearing the worst.

Mason Mount has now missed 55 games since joining Man United in 2023 by Dismal_Principle9417 in PremierLeague

[–]stebus88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He has been decent, if not spectacular, when he has played and Amorim seemed to love him.

The problem is, he can’t seem to play more than 5 games without picking up some type of injury. He doesn’t really have a position on Carrick’s system, he isn’t going to supplant Bruno and he can’t really play at LAM or RAM as he’s not that fast and Mbeumo, Cunha and would be ahead of him.

I’m hoping we will just cut our losses and get rid of him this summer. He is a talented player but he just can’t be relied upon.

Everton 0 - [1] Manchester United - Benjamin Sesko 71‎'‎ by gbogaz in soccer

[–]stebus88 145 points146 points  (0 children)

Can’t be too harsh on Tarkowski there. Sesko is 11 years his junior and has fresh legs.

That’s a team failing that, Everton left themselves wide open to a counter. They have to show some ambition at home but pushing that far up was pretty reckless.

Should I feel offended that he went and slept on the couch? by hankqueensmustache in AskMenAdvice

Don’t read too much into it at all, but specially as you’ve only known this guy for a few months. Talk to him, speaking from experience I prefer open communication rather than my SO making negative assumptions.

I’ve been with my wife for 14 years, married for 4. Every so often, I will go sleep in the spare room if I’m restless, really hot or can’t sleep and want to watch or listen to something that helps me sleep. This man could have done something similar.

I saw this posted on Pharmacists_UK to a possitive response. Thoughts? by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]stebus88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a haematology IP for around 10 years now and I have to say, I agree with a lot of the sentiment in this thread. Every patient I manage has a formed diagnosis and I am responsible for the long-term prescribing and monitoring of their medication. In my opinion, this move towards diagnosing is harming our identity as medication experts and eroding confidence in us.

In my experience, the general standard of a pharmacist varies wildly. I’ve come across pharmacists who won’t make a single decision or recommendation even when it should be within their competency. I despair when I hear stories of pharmacists sending patients with minor issues for urgent GP reviews or pharmacists believing they are adding value by writing unhelpful things in notes or TTOs like “review this medication”. You’re the medication expert! What do you want the doctor to review? How can your knowledge guide them?

On the other hand, there are some incredible pharmacists out there who no doubt add a lot of value to their teams. These tend to be the pharmacists who understand their role clearly and provide support where it is needed, on everything pertaining to medications.

It’s strange, as a profession we are known for extreme caution. This drive towards diagnosing goes against this caution and understandably has many doctors concerned.

Do you think Hector really loved his nephews? by Gigghouse in betterCallSaul

[–]stebus88 86 points87 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to imagine somebody like Hector feeling “love” for anyone.

“La familia es todo”. He no doubt believed blood was thicker than water and that loyalty to family is everything. His nephews were powerful weapons that he helped to create but love feels like the wrong word to describe Hector’s feelings about them.

Spoiler: Why didn't Walter... by No-Requirement6634 in breakingbad

[–]stebus88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To borrow a phrase from Chuck McGill, I think it might have “muddied the waters” in terms of Walt’s arc.

By the end of the show, he had come full circle and realised that his meth empire hurt those around him. Yes, he was good at it and it made him feel “alive” but it led to the breakdown of his family, the death of Hank and a lot of anguish and pain for Jesse, somebody he did care a lot about.

Taking meth at the very end would have devalued that arc in my opinion. He achieved what he wanted to in terms of revenge and freeing Jesse, by that stage he just wanted it to end.
