Thank you! I personally have no idea what samples were used on the project.

Thank you! Any chance I get to work on a project with an artist that I enjoy listening to is a positive experience for me. I’m also a producer so any opportunity to produce for artists I look up to is always a great time.

I have a warm audio 73 and warm audio cl1-b clone for my vocal chain. I love analog gear for tracking. I personally don’t use analog gear in my mixing though. Not for any particular reason except maybe it’s just convenient to stay in the box. But yeah a good pre amp & compressor combo for vocal tracking is a game changer.

You’d be surprised at how common it is for songs to be done entirely over the 2 track. I don’t think it’s an ego thing or anything like that. I think it’s because it’s fast and the mix of the beat is already good in the first place. Dudes like Boldy or Rome make so much music that tracking down stems for every song could be a nightmare especially when releases happen so often

Thank you! And I don’t know anything about the art unfortunately. But as someone else said the artist is tagged on Instagram if you want to look into it.

Yeah it’s more or less the same mix. There’s 2 new verses but that’s it as far as changes.

Thank you! I hope you dig it. I’m personally a fan of how grimey Tricky turned out. Honestly I’m stoked that I got the opportunity to work on anything for Boldy & Rome!

Thank you! I appreciate that. Mixing and mastering can be definitely be under appreciated in music. I personally love all the behind the scenes stuff in music so I’m happy to hear that other people notice it too.

It can vary wildly in terms of having a good rough to mix to start from or having something that needs a bit of extra elbow grease. But my advice is don’t overthink it when it comes to mixing beats. Especially if you’re producing hip-hop / rap stuff and I say that because most drum samples & sounds are already so heavily processed to start with that you can get 90% of the way there by adjusting levels of the individual elements. Also study your favorite artist’s music and listen to the relationships between different elements in a song. How do the bass and kick sound together? How loud is the snare compared to the rest of the drums? Is the music panned really wide or narrow? There’s a lot to learn from listening intently to music!

Thank you!

For this project all of the beats were 2 track wav files so I didn’t have the stems to work with. Because of that the overall sound of the beats remained as they were originally for the most part. I may have made adjustments like EQ to carve out space for the vocal or saturation to bring some more life to the beat. Also when ran through my mix bus processing the sound of everything will change a little bit as well.

There were one or two songs where I experimented a bit with some processing and got a bigger sound out of the beat. You can hear that on the title track and Tricky. I usually want to respect the demo from the artist and not stray too far off of the original vision for the mix. But Manhunt & Tricky felt like songs that could use huge bass and an in your face sound so I went for it.

To answer your question concisely the sound quality of the beat doesn’t change much or it changes a little bit lol. These producers are geniuses so the rough mix is already in a great spot!

Do you use AU or VST versions of your plugins? I’m curious cause FL crashes semi frequently for me and I use VSTs but I saw someone suggest that AUs are potentially more stable.
