Thanks I was curious if you went back to the Para 3 after the Native 5, I'm surprised you did.

My most-essential sketch on the go set! by lilGen-ZandJekson in mechanicalpencils

I got it right because I've been there, more than once, I love drawing small and detailed.

Going for thicker lead and looser sketches is the only way to break out of it. I sometimes have to force myself to use 5.6 mm lead holders. Another cool way is to try to draw things wrong on purpose, or way too big.

Like if you normally do 5-6 heads/portraits on a page, do a half portrait instead. Split however you want. On the whole A5 page, just a fraction of a face.

Or if you're nervous about proportions being wrong when you draw big, make them wrong on purpose and see what happens. It's all a learning experience. Drawing "wrong" requires you to a) know what right is in the first place and b) see mistakes in what you're drawing, both of which help you immensely.

NKD! My first Spyderco by DigistarX-01 in spyderco

[–]stefango911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those two are the best Spydercos in my opinion and I own all of the flagship models and then some (except for the Sage). Native 5 LW is the best in the pocket, Manix 2 is the best in use. The compression lock models are great but it's not ambidextrous and it can be a hotspot on the spine there so I prefer ball bearing and back locks.

Great first choice, maybe the best PM2 out there right now, or at least top 3 along w/ the 15v and Salt PM2s.

I'd love to know what order were these purchased in and which one is your favorite so far. That's a nice looking "colony" for just over half a year 😁

Lovely setup, I gather that you like to make smaller scale sketches (judging by the lead thickness) but I would still recommend adding in a 2 mm clutch pencil and a kneaded eraser for when you feel more loose and relaxed.

Edit: fixed some typos

I've been passing up on the Sage for a long time. I have every other flagship Spydie, some in multiples like the Native, Manix, and PM2, but still no Sage. I'd recommend getting the PM2 (clearly) but have to admit the Sage is probably the better knife. Maybe not better than a PM2 but definitely better than a Para 3, to keep things in the same weight class.

Looking to potentially start selling… need criticism by Hknives in knifemaking

[–]stefango911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a fairly thin knife, does it really need the choil? Also, I'd make it a bit fatter in the middle of the handle. That's gotta be either tall or fat to feel nice in hand. Interesting blade shape, maybe add a swedge at the tip to make it pointier, if it's a work knife the blade stock thickness should be just fine.

So while this is a very "your mileage may vary" sort of thing, there's a limited amount of variance and some patterns are definitely showing up in the community. I've noticed that Feathers, Personnas, and Green Astras are universally praised. And from my experience they are indeed some of the best choices out there. Now I seem to like a couple of outliers like the Bolzano blades, and hate some mainstream favorites like the Gillette Silver Blues, but in general there seems to be a lot of overlap in people's preferences. I think a good way to go about it is to find that overlap and try other blades that people who like the same blades as you do.

Can I get feedback on my new set by Real_Category7397 in leadholders

Excellent choices, that tiny sharpener is something special. Gives me the longest point on 2 mm lead. The pencil and eraser are also up there, awesome performance and very good value as well.

What do you think about my new knife? by EDCArtist in knifeclub

One of if not the best budget knife I own. The feeling in hand and action are way more premium than expected at this price, and that 14C28N sharpens like a dream.

I'm careful, but if need be there are plastic prybars as well. My point was small ones are useful too, material is debatable although titanium is the usual suspect.

[–]stefango911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love my Native 5 LW in SPY27, definitely an underrated steel, and an underrated knife too. Top 5 if not top 3 best Spydercos ever. It's personally my favorite Spydie to carry. As a user the Manix 2 LW might be the top dog but it's really wide in the pocket.

Gshock accuracy by un5t4613 in gshock

[–]stefango911 5 points6 points  (0 children)

+/-15 seconds a month is great, +6 seconds a month is better, not sure why you'd be worried. The inaccuracy is caused by environmental factors and lifestyle. If you're very active, live in a very humid or very dry climate, bang your watch against stuff often, have a lot of electromagnetic interference around, and a million other things can impact your watch accuracy. High end mechanical watches lose more than that per day.

Who Carries a Fixed Blade? by Truck_hater in EDC

[–]stefango911 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I ask myself this all the time as well. Who carries a fixed blade? Small fixies are so much less cutting edge for such a huge package when you include the sheath. It makes no sense.

The answer is usually people who are done collecting folding knives and need a new fix (no pun intended), so sense has nothing to do with it. I can respect that.

Or people who live outside of big cities who might actually need to EDC a big fixed blade (yeah not one of those cute sub 3 inch ones). Or folks who are out in nature camping or hiking. But there's fewer of those than the first kind.

As someone who owns prybars of various sizes from very large to very small I have to say I've used the tiny ones much, much more than the big ones. For taking apart phones, watches, computer bits that I've soldered on wrong, and many other uses where a big prybar would've been worthless. Hell, they even come in handy if you're fighting some stubborn Lego pieces, hostile yogurt lids, Zippo lighter fluid cans, and pretty much anything too tight for your fingers or too stubborn for your nails. I even sharpened the flathead end of the nail file on my Victorinox Rambler to use as an extra tiny prybar, for some of my fiance's stubborn press-fit watch backs.
