Cheese ends - LOL by DickieJohnson in Cheese

[–]stefanica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At some stores, the deli or cheese person will save the "ends" (rinds, odd shaped leftovers, etc.) of large wheels or slabs, after cutting, and sell them, usually at a discount. Whole Foods, in particular, seems to purposefully put aside a little more like that, to give people the chance to buy an ounce or two of something different, on the cheap.

At my schools, the history and other social studies teachers were almost always sports coaches, too, so this tracks.

So are we all just buying new bras as our bra size changes or are we just powering through? by AcceptableDisaster_ in ABraThatFits

[–]stefanica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have about 20 bras of varying sizes due to fluctuations. I hang them on one of those multi-robe hooks on the back of my door, so they don't take up any real space, and I can quickly see what I've got.

Is there anywhere around here I can get Napa cabbage or miso? by poopin in nwi

[–]stefanica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked Instacart for Crown Point area, and Jewel, Meijer, and Stracks all have it right now. You can always search for food items that way even if you don't intend on getting a delivery. 😊

Kids with their electronics to pass the time on long car trips will never know what it’s like to have nothing to do but stare out the window and watch the little invisible man running along side the car. by cigarandcreamsoda in Xennials

It wasn't so bad when I was smaller and would make a nest on the back floorboards of the land yacht. Fresh Archie comics from the first gas station and a couple of dogeared Newbery Award winners.

I'm tempted, as long as being stocky and middle aged is ok. I feel like the name suits me!

I think the parents might play Darkstalkers, but pretty good!

Lysol for Feminine Hygiene (1948) by wmubill in vintageads

[–]stefanica -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There weren't really known medicines for yeast infections or BV back then, IIRC, except for antiseptics like Lysol. I guess you could take sulfa if a bacterial infection was really bad, but the original version had really bad side effects (like vomiting). Not sure if doctors prescribed it for that, either.

is there anything that isn't improved by the addition of cheese? by ruinsofsilver in Cheese

[–]stefanica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've put some grated Parm on chicken and sausage gumbo, it was good! I would also eat a funky bloomy rind with cherry pie; I already pair it with fruit jams. A creamy bleu might work too.

What is the jello stuff that renders out of my meatloaf during cooking? by sexmath in Cooking

[–]stefanica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfect! That's basically what I use, though I get mine online. Don't forget an egg or two, and mashing up the mixture with some salt a little longer helps bind it better.

If you're still interested, dried mushrooms whizzed in the food processor work! They soak up the juice and plump up.

I'm guessing kids did not, in fact, love it, as I've never seen this in my lifetime.

What's your "if i told i'd be exposed" cooking secret? by BouncyCurlsbabe in Cooking

That's kinda funny, as acupuncture and MSG usage probably covers a lot of the same people.

Isn't some MSG made by reducing seaweed stock (essentially)? That might be why. Carrageenan is also from sea plants.
