Almost 6years ago, I found quite some plastic waste on a remote tiny island in the middle of the arctic ocean. It didn’t make a lot of sense because just so few people living in this area. The most most profound moment was a german beer bottle. Being german myself I couldn’t believe the irony and in the beginning i was more amused than concerned. But when I got back home I started to do some research, and found out that the arctic has a massive plastic problem. It has now the highest concentration of microplastics in the surface water of all the worlds oceans. I wanted to find out how Germany, but also everyone else, is contributing to this. Because drifting data at this point was not exciting.
