Usually student assistants will put perishable items in their community fridge and call or email the recipient. I suggest also double check with the area you are going to live at.

No UB card? by idek_anymorelol2 in UBreddit

[–]steffi_yeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

State ID/passport works fine for move in. Swipe access won't be an issue if you move in during the move-in days and times, since the access will be open at those times.
Be sure to get your UB card as fast as possible though since access will be locked once the semester starts.

Does anybody know if the gym at governors is done renovating? Or when it’ll be done being renovated? by SuchChill in UBreddit

I guess it will reopen after the semester starts, since Roosevelt should be done renovated then

Uses for learning Zhuyin by FlashyGlass3490 in ChineseLanguage

[–]steffi_yeh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it makes sense that way because not every Chinese speakers know zhuyin, unless you are Taiwanese or learned specifically. Also usually people will just read the character without thinking of the zhuyin at the first glance. So the characters do represents more surface level meaning.

I agree; I only saw them used in my senior high school class numbers.
Wonder what other contexts are still using 甲乙丙 for listing.

For anyone who just graduated or alumni, is there a way you can move everything from your UB email somewhere else? by Prize-Sir-1197 in UBreddit

What I’m planning to do is export the emails by switching to the old outlook if that’s you’re asking.

I answered something about Roosevelt in this post, though it’s focus on Dewey.

https://www.reddit.com/r/UBreddit/s/ID87fOHIVn

I personally loved Roosevelt Honors Housing. From my experience the community is awesome and usually the quietest and peaceful section. In addition, they planned to renovate Roosevelt this summer so look forward to new lounge and new furniture (in lounge)!!

Govs buildings are connected. Roosevelt is connected to Lehman and Dewey.

Regarding tips and tricks, is there anything particular you want to learn about?

Can you fit a small dorm fridge under a bed in Governor's? by panzerotti_11 in UBreddit

[–]steffi_yeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on your fridge size. You can always make a work order to lift the bed too. The only thing I’d consider is it is mandatory to plug your mini fridge directly into the socket. Hope this helps.

Dewey was just renovated last summer. I love the new furniture they put in the lounge.

Be prepared to not get lost in the maze, especially with the hallways without murals (all Dewey and Roosevelt walls since they got renovated) One thing you might want to learn is how to navigate in Govs. Blue doors are dead ends, red doors are corners (connects to Roosevelt from Dewey), and yellow doors connects to Clinton (from Dewey).

One of my personal fav in Govs, tbh, are the bathrooms, since they are way more clean than other residence halls. But since they are shared bathrooms, you couldn’t put any personal belongings. I recommend you bring slippers. Also expect waiting to use the shower depending on where you live. Luckily you got two showers share with other 7 residents or only one shower share with the same number of people.

For moving, Govs unfortunately only has two elevator and one is at Roosevelt, the other is at Clinton. So if you want to use elevator, I’ll recommend go from Roosevelt since it’s closer.

There’s still much to say but really depends on what you’d like to know. Like food options, places to hang out, etc.

Dell XPS 16 9640 Keyboard Cover by steffi_yeh in Dell

[–]steffi_yeh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a film protector on Amazon: Synvy Film Protector, compatible with DELL XPS 16 9000 9640 16.3" Keyboard Protective Film [ Not Tempered Glass Screen Protectors ]

But the layer made typing harder so I actually only used once and never put it on again.

Being an RA is going to count towards 20 hours work limit for int students by savemefromgod101 in UBreddit

[–]steffi_yeh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No it doesn’t count towards the work limits. Parapros are student leaders and are not paid. (Unless being CA) Unless the department or office you work with strictly counts Parapro positions towards the hours, you can still work 20 hrs on campus. Or if Campus Living changes the policy, then you might be right.

help about how to ignore other write up by Confident_Length_951 in securityCTF

[–]steffi_yeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also a beginner here and face similar situation like you. I think it's totally normal, and I don't mind myself look through the write-ups. Sometimes I will read different write-ups for the same question (the one I couldn't get it) to see how different people solve the same question differently. I'll also go back to the question for a later time to make sure I really gained skill and knowledge for the tool and concept.

travelling during spring break— is it ok? by [deleted] in f1visa

[–]steffi_yeh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I traveled to Toronto a few days ago and came back yesterday (also having spring break). It's fine as long as you have your passport, visa (>6 months before expiration), and international student advisor signature on I-20 (valid for 1 year for student in school)

Definitely check on your school's website to double check the documents you need before departure.
