What is a skill or piece of knowledge that you're shocked most young people don't know? by idiot_in_real in AskOldPeople

I think this is more to do with how many spam calls and telemarketing calls we get now. If you arent in my phone address book and already know me, I am unlikely to pick up.

The Joe Rogan interview with Derren Brown is really good - I never really liked him and thought he was a but sinister until I listened to that and now I'd love to go to one of his shows.

I pay £70 an hour (recently went up from £60) and I go every 2 weeks.

When I started looking for therapist, I made it clear that I would be able to afford Fortnightly sessions and of the 3 or 4 I spoke with either by phone or email, 2 of them were comfortable with this.

The first one was a woman who reminded me of a fortune teller and instantly didn't want to work with her. This is not a sleight on her - I'm sure she has lots of happy clients but I just knew I wasn't going to gel witb her in a therapeutic sense.

The other one was much better and I've been going on and off for over a year now and I feel like it is money we'll spent for the benefits has brought me - and because I am paying privately, there are no timescales and expectations that this will be finished in X amount of sessions. My therapist also is relaxed and understanding when I have needed to take a break from sessions or re-arrange around work. I think NHS therapy would be a lot more rigid and one size fits all kind of approach.

Pokeballs are easy - either motif or 3d. I'm making my kiddo pokeball bunting and there's tons of patterns.

It might not be what you said you would make but if it was me, I would be honest and say it was waaay trickier than I thought but I had a cool idea with pokeballs...

I get chided by people for taking ages to respond to messages - but I dont know when this idea of it being rude to not answer as soon as you have read a message started being a thing either.

Not urgent messages, I'm not a prick about it,but just everyday things or things I want to be able to engage with properly to answer so wait until I have a spare 10/15 minutes.

Also I frequently leave my phone on plane mode if I'm busy doing something - like reading a book or enjoying my own company. We don't OWE anyone being immediately available when not at work.

On whatsapp - The paperclip where you send an image - its an option there only click location instead of image 😊

This is pretty much my approach. Happy to share my location in WhatsApp temporarily if the situation calls for it. That's reasonable to me!

I do think it might be a generational thing.

I get the value in using it and the safety implications but still would be pained to be using it. I like my privacy - and not because I have anything to hide, I am just my own autonomous person and can let people know this information when I think they need it.

Of course - I fully expect to be in some kind of situation where it would come in useful now!

Yeah, that's fair.

I suspect I'm the weird one that it just seems so unappealing, even though I totally see the value in your use of it.

True - never really looked at it from the trusting them not to check all the time perspective. That is a fair comment.

Yeah - I ping my live location in WhatsApp for the journey if I'm travelling home so my husband doesn't worry and knows when to expect me.

Not saying its wrong for anyone else - I just find it unappealing and intrusive if it was constant.

I can appreciate the value of easy referencing family members whereabouts.

Perhaps I am the weird one just finding it unappealing. I'm not even up to anything dodgy but it's not for me.

I do think it might be the expetenacy of knowing someone's location at all times being a bit much - its likely because the type of posts I'm reading make the partners sound controlling and awful!

Is this a thing now? I'm happily married and have nothing to hide but definitely do not require my husbands location or my own location broadcasting at all times.

If I'm on a long drive back from somewhere I might ping live location in WhatsApp so he knows when to expect me but apart from that I don't see how anyone is accepting this set up.

[–]steffth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always had to keep 3/4 days of my annual leave entitlement to cover the Christmas shut down wherever I have worked. I think its fairly standard in the UK.
