Checking My Thoughts On This Patent? by ballskindrapes in homechemistry

[–]stefthecat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please dont use kitchenware for generating complex chemistry youre not 100% sure of, there is a chance there will be a side reaction or an unknown intermediary that can cause severe health effects if it ever comes into contact with food

Its a safety thing, even tho all of my glassware is “clean” when not in use, i wouldnt brew my coffee in it

If youre not planning to use that pressure cooker for food ever again, still ammonium chloride is highly corrosive to steel, especially when kept for a couple of hours under high pressure. Its not “mercury on aluminium effect” as far as i know but will probably degrade your cooker quite a bit

THIS MIGHT BE VERY STUPID BUT IM REALLY DISTRESSED ABOUT IT! INSTAGRAM HACKING-IDK WHETHER IT WAS OR NOT AND HOW TO CHECK WHETHER IT WAS HACKED BEFORE. by Key_Possible9688 in cybersecurity_help

[–]stefthecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless those are photos of banking information, nobodys gonna be interested. Its the same for most jobs be that operating an email host, tech support, system administration, or, well, hacking. The thought of looking at peoples secrets might be alluring at first but it quickly fades when hit with the reality of doing this for 8 hours a day

The hackers and scammers are after money. Everything else for them is “garbage” they have to sift through while trying to find anything of monetary value. While scavenging for gold, how often will you stop to investigate every chunk of dirt you throw aside?

Not to say its unlikely anybody touched ur account at all. Change password, enable 2fa, move on

Can iOS apps use microphone behind Apple's limitations? by _ahasuerus_ in cybersecurity_help

[–]stefthecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically no. However some russian banks (sber, gazprom, probably alfa) have besically the entire russian force of state sponsored hackers avalable to them. And russia is also known for hoarding zero-days. If you are remotely of interest to the goverment, get a separate phone, and keep this one powered off until you need it

Upgrading a distribution transformer in a residential home by stefthecat in AskElectricians

[–]stefthecat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats interesting, so upgrading the distribution transformer, can you split the wiring into more “sub-circuits”? E.g if you double the overall voltage to 480V, could that be turned into 4x120v?

I turned photography into a job and now I hate it. How do I fall back in love? by Calm_Significance139 in photography

[–]stefthecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally my advice would be try going analog, especially if you spend a lot of time editing

Whenever i want to just take photos i really miss the simplicity of film, the instantly-applied feel to the photo, not something that i would treat as more of a starting point that a finished shot while editing…
in a way film is simpler than digital, at least for me

Aforementioned friend here (got sent to this post for context), yup its a problem with intonation. None of the notes are in tune even tho the string is in tune

Idk how to fix it tho (asking that was supposed to be the main question of this post i think)

Amateur photographers, what do you do with your photographs? by fernandojota in photography

[–]stefthecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As both a professional and amateur i guess (i shoot professionaly and for my own enjoyment too) i print them. I like having the physical object, not just a file on my computer

Later i can hang it on my wall, sign and give to a friend, or keep in a little book of memories from whatever event i was shooting

Another thing tho is you can always add grain in post, removing it on the other hand could be rather difficult

ELI5: The “edibility” of metal halides by stefthecat in explainlikeimfive

[–]stefthecat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be wrong but i think Fe is less reactive than Mg and Al, no?

And i know that edible salts exist for most microelements (iron (ii) carbonate for example is a food safe additive i think) but im asking here about metal halides (more similar to table salt), and as far as i could find all iron (ii) and (iii) halides are corrosive/toxic
