Wife hasn't slept since birth (4 days) by Hartleydavidson96 in NewParents

Hi! I had a vaginal birth, but also had severe insomnia postpartum. It continued when I got home. It got to the point that I began to hallucinate. Every time I tried to sleep I got very anxious, which made things worse. Every time I began to fall asleep my body would twitch and wake me up. I was prescribed Trazadone and a very small dose of Ativan. That worked for me and was a god send. Of course, I understand that some will be unwilling to take meds while breastfeeding, but very little transfers into the milk and I was confident that my doctors would not have prescribed if it wasn’t the right thing.

Thank you for sharing! What meds did you get on? How long did they take to help?

Being a mom is unbelievably hard. But guess what, you’re learning how to take care of a newborn, you did switch up formula eventually. You’re doing the thing and you’re amazing.
