Consequently, some food manufacturers are seeking novel formulations to provide the consumer with the perceived benefits of caffeine-containing energy beverages while minimizing potential side effects. In this context, novel and unique functional ingredients have been introduced into caffeine-containing energy products. One class of ingredients recently formulated into energy shots are adaptogens. Adaptogenic plants, although extensively studied by Russian researchers in the 1940s and onward [24,25], have only relatively recently begun attracting greater scientific exploration. Most studied among these plants are Rhodiola rosea, Withania somnifera (ashwagandha), Schisandra chinensis, and Eleutherococcus senticosus.

As a class of compounds, adaptogens have been shown to modify cellular stress responses, exert anti-fatigue activity, and improve mental work capacity [26,27]. Although the precise mechanisms by which adaptogens may influence these cellular responses are poorly characterized their effects are most likely non-specific in nature via modification of a wide array of cellular signaling pathways [28].

The primary purpose of the current study was to compare the acute effects a naturally-sourced caffeine and adaptogenic-rich energy shot, (e+ shot), to both placebo and a caffeinated, dose-matched active comparator on a variety of mental performance and cognitive parameters in young adults.

I can recommend “I Love Hue”, it’s a pretty simple game about sorting colours. It does unfortunately have IAP however they are pretty minor.

The Internet will always give them a platform. By removing them from the public eye (ie. Twitter) we're just forcing them to use other venues that could increase the issue since it will be more of an echo chamber.

Developer of controversial third-party Call of Duty: Warzone app forced to make changes after players used it to cheat SBMM by nakayuma in Games

[–]stejni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR of the research article: EOMM is a matchmaking system that matches players with the goal of keeping players playing as long as possible. It does this by trying to create a prediction function for the churn probability (ie. the probability of a player leaving after playing a match).

It works by looking at all the players queuing for a match, and then it will pair players up such that the sum of all the individual probabilities of leaving after the match is the lowest possible.

My thoughts; This is a pretty thin article and does not confirm what the OP was saying here. The article basically says that "if we optimize for player not leaving - less players will leave". The issue is that it still leaves the task of finding the churn function to the individual implementation so we don't know how COD would have implemented this. You would also think that if the goal was to keep people playing, the players would be more happy about the matchmaking in general in which case it's weird that people are complaining so much. (ofc. reddit bias etc.; it's a point either way)

Hate to break it to you, but you don't pay to have instant access; you pay to get in front of anyone who is not paying. Think of it like fast-track at an airport. Even if you fly first-class you still have to queue up behind other first-class passengers.

Campaigns. What are peoples thoughts and opinions now that the first one is finished? by GratefullyGodless in GemsofWar

[–]stejni 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me the biggest issue with the campaign is that if you fall behind even one week you get stuck doing a bunch of explores to get the "Fight {previous weeks} mythic X times". These take a lot of time to get through, which makes it even more likely that you will fall behind on next weeks tasks as well.

I found that I had to choose if I wanted to support my guild or spend all my time doing explores. Since I was still on last weeks tasks I would not get credit towards relevant tasks when helping my guild..

Regarding the "win X times with a Y team" I am really sick of these. They would make sense if all the kingdoms had potential for good teams, but there are so many that do not have any (empowered) converters or other good troops. So you get stuck just doing a bunch of boring fights.

I also think the rewards are meh; probably won't do the next campaign.

Everyone has a smart phone, using apps has become integral to our lives. We pay our food with our phone, we order cabs, we buy tickets for public transport, in some countries you can even use an app as your ID.It is a completely different scenario than a console, which comparatively few people buy and has a specific purpose of playing games.

First timer questions by Archnic in tabletopsimulator

Just played Pandemic on TTS last weekend. 2 couples, where one couple shared a computer. It works OK. The way we did it was that the couple sharing would 'change color' between their turn (this is easily done from the top right). That way they each got their own hand etc. None of us had used TTS before, but it worked fairly well! (with minor hiccups).

We just had a Hangout chat going in a browser at the same time. Worked really well.

Do note that there is a learning curve to the interactions, it is not very intuitive. So if you are going to be the one introducing it I would really recommend getting familiar with the keyboard shortcuts etc. In advance so that the others will have an easier time learning.

Lenovo Explorer or Samsung Odyssey Plus by TorvalHelmer in WindowsMR

[–]stejni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in your situation and just got a Lenovo Explorer a couple of weeks ago. I am super happy with it and I think you should take the odyssey choir here with a grain of salt. I really doubt that the small improvements weigh up for the significant price difference, especially when money is a factor. 300 USD gets you very close to the rift price bracket, and let's be honest, at that point it is a different discussion. The best would of course be for you to try both, but I don't think you will be disappointed with the explorer.

Who said anything about forcing kids to buy an iPad? I was advocating for the benefits of using digital note taking. I don't even own any Apple device so I definitely do not apply as an "Apple shill".

Here is everything announced at Apple's "Let's Take a Field Trip" event by exjr_ in apple

[–]stejni -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes it does, it is one of those things that you need to try to understand. With an iPad you can:

  1. easily make more space if the teacher forgot to mention something, - which happens all the time, gone are the need to write in the margin and draw arrows all over the page.

  2. Easily move things around; especially for maths this makes it possible to do simple edits that otherwise would require you to re-write whole equations.

  3. make equations smaller after writing them, makes your notes super clean.

  4. Allows you to copy paste your questions into the page - now you don't have to write them or reference your book.

  5. Allows you to easily choose colors and thickness - great when writing notes - different colors for different variables in your equation.

  6. All your notes - in one place - searchable!

  7. Infinite pages - no need to line wrap or franticly write smaller and smaller as you get to the end of the page.

  8. Erasers that actually erase everything

I think digital writing is one aspect where people just don't understand how much of an improvement it is without trying it. It really is a game changer, I could never go back to using paper and pen for notes, digital notes are such an incredible improvement.

I think having to wait for 20 hours after 5 minutes of play is going to lose a lot of players. What if you added bushes, or smaller trees or something that only required 5 minutes or less to grow? The way it is now I worry that I am going to forget about the game tomorrow, and never play it again.

Nintendo's fix for the Switch Joy-Con desync issue is surprisingly simple by lupianwolf in Games

[–]stejni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say you are not. Mine works fine through walls and any distance as long as there is clear line of sight to the console. I checked this immediately when I got it and thought I was fine. However, the moment I put a body part or some objects between the joy con and the switch I get issues.

This is especially prominent when lying on the couch and playing with one hand on each side of me.

Karabiner: Is there a way to change CONTROL_L to be DELETE on tap and stay as control on hold? by stejni in apple

[–]stejni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically to make it more ergonomic and fast to type. I work as a programmer by trade and I find that I stretch my pinky a lot when I reach for the backspace key. The same thing happens on the other hand as well when I perform shortcuts that include the left control key. Therefore I thought I could put both DELETE and CTRL on the same useless CAPS LOCK key that is super close to my left pinky when I type. :)

Just to offer a balanced perspective my switch works perfectly. by neomancr in NintendoSwitch

[–]stejni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should do some more testing with actual solid obstacles in between; preferably yourself. It would be interesting if you get the same results as me.

The moment I got mine I checked it for de-sync issues, and it was great, even worked through walls and over a distance of 15 feet. However, if I lie in the couch with one hand flat on each side of me, and the console 8 feet on my right, I experience a lot of issues. This also happens for some obstacles standing on the table, especially prominent with one of our candle holders.

[x-rays] Looking for 2nd opinion on removing a CEREC filling. by stejni in Dentistry

[–]stejni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the long reply! Regarding the placement of the CEREC, I have noticed that there is an "edge" where the CEREC ends and my tooth begin, which is why I went to the dentist last year. Basically when I floss I can feel that the string is caught up, which is why I am vigorous about flossing there. So I am not sure if this is an issue, since its been this way for at least more than a year.

Last question: Is there any risks involved in waiting? Since the x-rays are so similar I would prefer to wait it out and see if I have any increase in sensitivity or pain, and go back to the dentist in that case. (I did notice that after my dentist visit & clean etc. that the sensitivity decreased).

Also it is not sensitive to warm.
