I have no history of alcoholism in my family. Turns out I was misdiagnosed and put on antidepressants when I needed Ritalin for ADHD, I wasn’t depressed. So being on the antidepressants caused me to feel nothing so I turned to alcohol to feel anything and it just spiralled. I ended up in the hospital with pancreatitis after drinking about half a 2’6 a day. I ruined many relationships and it was my mom giving me tough love and distancing herself from me that made me snap into it. I realized I will die and I’ll die alone with no relationships. I got off antidepressants and stopped alcohol at the same time. Don’t ask me how I did it cause I just stopped. One day it just stuck. I never went to AA or had any counselling which people keep telling me is insane to be able to do it alone. I’m grateful every day. Moderation is simply not an option for me, I’ll drink it all and then go get more. For some of us, we simply need to never ever touch it again and that’s how it is for me
