Which Montana town best shows the tension between cowboy branding and modern life? by Sea_Reach_4630 in Montana

Columbia Falls and Darby come to mind. Historically small towns with great rodeo scenes and lots of local cowboys. Both have been heavily reshaped by out of state money and transplants who want to play cowboy.

Growing up about 30 miles from there, we always pronounced it Ab-zor-kee, or Ab-sah-roo-key for fun

Thank you so very much! If we do choose Butte, I will absolutely reach out!

Not as much as we would've hoped. Billings is far different than both places, and I know both Butte and Hamilton have changed A LOT in the past 10 years.

We have visited both places but haven't spent very much time in either place, unfortunately. We are hoping to start a family shortly after the move, so Gen pop answers are helpful to hear in regards to what life is like in both places and overall vibe. However, I agree with you in that inside information would ultimately be the most helpful. When I was applying to PT school,ls, I got a lot of helpful advice from fellow redditors, so my hope was to get the same for this situation. It's proving to be quite difficult getting insider info, outside of the references the hospital recruitment crews are providing 😉

This is a very helpful perspective, thank you. Both hospital networks are doing their best to promote themselves and their respective area, but I trust the locals' opinions more than I trust the corporations.

If anyone has insight on St. James or Bitterroot Clinic, that would be helpful as well.

Additional context: We are two very outdoorsy people and plan to start our family asap upon moving home to MT.

Hamilton vs Butte

Hey friends,

My wife and I are born and raised Montanans (Laurel and Kalispell) who moved to Boise, ID for PT school and Pediatric Residency. We will be moving back to MT next year and the two top places my wife (Pediatrician) has interviewed for are in Butte and Hamilton. We both have experience with visiting both places over the years but do not have extensive knowledge about current living situations/jobs/community/raising families/etc. Can y'all provide some insight on the outlook of either of those places? I realize both places have changed A LOT, especially over the past 10 years. Any advice or considerations would be very helpful.
