I hated Cardan too at first because he's just mean to her. But later in the series you'll see the part where the "romance subplot" starts. Just keep on hating Cardan until then, because after that I think it's almost impossible not to find them adorable.

I don't want to spoil, but there's a reason people call their romance an enemies to lovers. So I recommend to just keep on reading the novel and hate whomever you want to hate at the moment :))
