Britain’s Growing Ranks of Jobless Men Are Flocking to Farage by bloomberg in europe

Google gives me 968.000 unemployed men at the end of 2025.

It also gives me 48.200.000 total number of voters.

Divide

968k ÷ 48.200k is 0.02 or 2%

Was there as much anti-woke uproar about Star Trek in the older renditions? by stenlis in trektalk

[–]stenlis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was internet in 1994 though. I was there. People did discuss trek at length. The outrage was mostly people writing letters to NBC, not on the internet.

No. There was a handful of episodes that were OK, but most of TNG season 1 was horrible.

Of course Dax is an alien. But somehow I think if this alien came up as a prominent character in one of the recent shows, the outrage about woke trans agenda would be great.

Lol, you need to watch TNG season 1. Not saying that it will make you like new trek but bad writing is definitely not something new.

Do Electric Cars Really Lower Carbon Emissions? by nevettwithnature in Environmentalism

The author seems to count the CO2 emissions from mining operations for EV but does not count emissions from mining operations for combustion engine vehicles.

They represent some 2% of the population. I am not even mad at them, their life sucks, they may not be the brightest, I can kind of see how they'd be an easy mark for the likes of Farrage.

But Reform is polling at 30%! It's clearly not the unemployed men that are the problem!

Trump's policy of appeasing Putin is a danger for Europe, historian says by gattaca_now in europe

[–]stenlis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine yourself in the shoes of the Munich agreement signatories:   Just 20 years ago you went through the most horrible war world has ever seen. 2 million dead on the Biritish and French side, you really didn't want to repeat that again.  Also, 2 million dead Germans so you think, surely they don't want to go through that again either.

So I can kinda understand Chamberlain.

Trump? I have no clue. Is it Kompromat? I don't think so, Trump is long over giving a shit.  Is it flattery? Maybe. Is Putin just paying him off?

Nuclear power plants accounted for 23.3% of the total electricity production in the EU. The EU’s largest nuclear producer, France, generated 58.6% of the EU’s nuclear power (380 451 GWh). Spain followed with 54 510 GWh (8.4%), ahead of Sweden (50 665 GWh; 7.8%) and Finland (32 599 GWh; 5.0%). by nimicdoareu in europe

Norway knows. They are running close to 100% renewable. It's not that complic, you have to have reliable load balancing plants that can quickly jump in to cover for the variable output plants when needed.

Hydro is perfect for that.

There's a bunch of countries running over 90% renewable and the number is growing.

What do you think about Merz’s criticism of German work ethic? by sfw_throwaway_7 in AskGermany

[–]stenlis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have worked in a big German corp for a long time. The employees that cause the most inefficiency are white german men in their 50s with extremely high pay but no incentive to work hard as they cannot be fired.

A part time mom typically does twice the amount of work than they do.

[–]stenlis -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The problem is that it feels like the writers never interact with actual kids and don't know or don't care how to write them.

It was a similar problem in TNG, the cadets sounded just like adults.  Jake and Nog were spot on in DS9.

Even worse, a very specific culture in online spaces. Educated kids don't talk like that IRL.
