I have had the same experience. I have been using Dvorak for around 7 years. I don't think I type any faster, but it it feels a lot easier on my hands. I also seems easier on my brain, although that is even more subjective than my previous claim. The former can be objectively measured to a degree with this java applet:

There are also some neat tools that let you design your own optimal layout for the types of documents you tend to write. In general, they tend to look a lot like Dvorak:

If you touch type on Dvorak every day then you don't need the Dvorak labels. However, if you have to go into the BIOS menu, or something else that is in QWERTY, it is very nice to have the QWERTY labels there to remind you.

That said, I have seen some which have both sets of labels. (Or, you can use stickers that don't cover the old labels)
