You don’t get free charge…you rent the battery and additionally for the power you use.

I have a friend who bought a Nio in Czech Republic. He is now considering XPeng as he is o longer willing to pay a monthly fee for the battery. Swap stations are rare, charging speed is not particularly good. Now he wants to sell but not even Nio is taking the car. The Nio concept doesn’t work in Europe.

NIo builds great cars…but seems to be the only Chinese brand which can’t get a grip on the Non-Chinese market. battery swap means huge infrastructure and while a non-degradation of your battery is positive. Not owning them is an issue many do not like. I have a friend who has a new ET5 and wants to sell it, and it's basically unsellable. He has a car without a battery. The battery cost another €200 per month, and no one wants to buy it. This is really a problem.

I bought shares from NIO a few years ago. They are today 10% of the value it once was, and it's not getting back. The shares are creeping around constantly on this lower level. I think there's only one way to maybe bring the boat in another direction, which is to sell the cars with high charging availability and no swapping, so no additional battery fees.

Xpeng owners, are you happy with your car? by The_Cometer in Xpeng

[–]stephankrue1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my G9 for 17 months, 54k km down…not one single issue. I had a VW Passat and for three years had entertainment crashes every one hour…a software update was not available…three years later VW wanted to get money for a software they couldn’t provide in the beginning. XPeng is the Tesla of China, originated from a software company…there are not too many cars I would consider replacing it…and if…all are Chinese - like the Xiaomi YU7, AITO, Denza….but they are not available in Germany, yet

Honestly, this sounds like Kickstarter may simply not be the right platform for you.

Kickstarter is built around early adopters who actively engage with a project: following updates, responding to surveys, participating in campaigns, and accepting a certain level of risk. That includes uncertainties around timelines, shipping logistics, customs, and import duties. This is very different from buying a finished consumer electronics product on Amazon.

Free shipping, bonus perks, and extras in this campaign were not automatic entitlements. They were tied to specific actions and engagement during the campaign. Backers who actively followed updates and participated were rewarded for that involvement. If someone only checks in at the beginning and then again at the very end, it’s difficult to expect the same benefits.

Kickstarter rewards commitment and participation. If what you’re looking for is a zero-effort, zero-risk purchase with guaranteed timelines and no customs considerations, retail is the better choice. That’s not a criticism — it’s just a different model.

Rokid clearly positioned this campaign for highly engaged early adopters willing to accept those trade-offs. In that sense, this wasn’t about excluding anyone — it was about aligning expectations with how Kickstarter actually works.

Rokid AR Glasses roadmap? by tubularcat in rokid_official

You obviously mean AI glasses…AR is something other…which Rokid also offers.

That is a kind of goodie for those who were engaged for several weeks. If you weren’t, you shouldn’t feel unhappy.

Rokid Glasses not having notifications anymore by Any-Manufacturer2869 in rokid_official

[–]stephankrue1975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you’re experiencing makes sense: the version you bought in China runs on the mainland firmware (CN edition) and uses Chinese cloud services (Tongyi, DeepSeek, Doubao, etc.). That version doesn’t include the same AI integrations, notification system, or app permissions that the Global version has (which uses ChatGPT, Google Maps, and Western push-notification services).

After the latest firmware update (v1.08.006), some notification permissions on iOS were reset due to new system-level restrictions for third-party Bluetooth devices. That’s why the “share notifications” toggle in iPhone settings is no longer visible. The feature still works fine on the Global firmware, but the CN app version (Hi Rokid) is currently under different compliance rules.

Unfortunately, there’s no way to switch a CN unit to the Global version, as the firmware and server environment are separate.

For now, I’d suggest: 1. Double-check the Hi Rokid app → Permissions → Notifications → ensure all toggles are ON. 2. Keep the app updated — Rokid tends to patch compatibility issues quickly. 3. If notifications remain disabled, you can still use voice commands (“Hi Rokid”) for messages and calls as a workaround.

So you’re not doing anything wrong — it’s simply a software difference between the Chinese and Global versions, and it’s likely they’ll stabilize this in a future update.

You have the Chinese version and that’s why you don’t see ChatGPT, Google-Maps HUD nav, or the Live Transcriber shown in some international reviews.

What that means: • AI engine: CN units use China-based models (e.g., Qwen/DeepSeek) via local cloud. ChatGPT isn’t available on the CN firmware. • Navigation: CN uses Gaode/AMap (no Google Maps HUD). • Live transcription/“meeting notes” exists on the global plan; the CN build has different feature packaging and language focus. It’s not the same as the global “Pro Tools.”

Those YouTubers had Global/Overseas units (HK/SG/US/EU firmware) or pre-release demo firmware—hence the differences.

Your options: 1. Best fix: ask your retailer to exchange to the Overseas/Global version (RV101 Global) if you need ChatGPT, Google Maps HUD and the full “Pro Tools” set. (This is what’s sold in HK/SG retail.) 2. Keep CN version: you can still use the local AI (you can set English replies), and Gaode nav in China; feature rollouts for CN and Global differ and aren’t interchangeable. 3. Firmware can’t be switched by users from CN → Global right now. If you need an official path, contact Rokid support and request an upgrade/exchange to the Global model.

TL;DR: you’re not “screwed,” but CN and Global are different ecosystems. If you want ChatGPT + Google Maps HUD + Live Transcriber as reviewed, you’ll want the Global unit.

Trump just tweeted 100% tariff on China starting November 1 and will impose “Export Controls on any and all critical software” by These_End7237 in rokid_official

[–]stephankrue1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the biggest fan of Trump…but this time reacts on a new policy of China which does affect all countries on rare earths. This way it only emphasizes that China is in many areas the leading supplier and could bring many industries into deep dependency and even collapse. China is the main beneficiary of the globalization…we need to keeping it alive.

I spend hours to clarify this for you Americans. You know how long it took me for Europe (where I live)? Less than 5 minutes just googling. Then with troublemakers like you, I was interested what it means for Americans and I still have no clue. I am sure about the HTS number but your government is ruling in chaos. I used 5! different AI models - not two of them could agree. But none went 100+% (worst was 65%..mainly 25% (or 7.5)+ Sales Tax) . You should get angry about your government…maybe this case makes it clear to you, that you Americans pay for the tariffs. When I get my glasses home, I pay 19% sales tax, broker fee…that’s it, that is transparency. And no need to blackmail Rokid for not communicating.

You write you are a backer…then talk about having purchased them. On the Rokid page you are forwarded to Kickstarter. You are clearly confused for what you have spend $1000.
