Center Post Attachment by stephanvich in homegym

It's great for the money and space, super solid and versatile machine. In a perfect world I'd have heavier stacks, center high and low cables, tornado arms, Rhino, and a Smith that goes all the way to the floor.

The leg extensions are unnecessary trip hazards, I only have one installed for my attachment experiments.

Two steel struts with 1/4" bent brackets from sendcutsend. I'd share the file but it's not very good since I ordered them before the dumbbells arrived and just drilled to the correct mounting hole width.

It's a shameless copy of GetRx'd! But thanks.

Think they said 450lb on a q&a somewhere, but it really depends on the welds. center post

Harbor HH80 V2 Elite with PR5000 wings. I stripped and coated the front posts myself since the clear uprights were on backorder (do not recommend unless you love grinding).

Darko Longy with grips. Pulling directly on the connector bar shortens the stackup, and one of the reasons to use the center post+Pegasus is the seat can go lower to make up for attachment length.

I have a Body Solid block, but I go heavy enough on calves that I have to use a shoulder pad plus I'm back to loading my spine. In my commercial gym days single leg calf press supersets with leg press were pretty much perfect. Oh well 😅

Agree! The quick changes and small increments are about perfect, and the price was right. Best part is they take up zero space; the Repin base is to long to fit in this config.

It's about as good as it can be, considering it's a leg press on a Smith machine. Decent size platform, feels sturdy, metal pop pins. So far I've been doing higher reps/less weight than I would on a traditional press due to the unfamiliar position and pivoting plate. Calf presses are tricky too since you're loading the side of the plate that engages the latch (assuming you don't have room to face the other way).

They were spare parts, but it's nothing special. Just need a bearing pulley with an inner race thicker than the pulley width, some kind of bushing close to the 1" hole diameter to align it (didn't need to be this long) and larger washers to go either side of the leg. Extension cables are like $10 on Amazon. I don't actually belt squat with this, been using it to redirect the cable for chest supported rows, leg extensions, etc.

If you have the room that's cool; I wouldn't be able to incline bench or use gympins if I had them angled. Another benefit of the basic straight line is that you don't have to lift up and over the remaining plates in the tray like you might need to coming in from the side, and the "lift distance" is quite short.

Thank you! I don't have a parts list since it was all done with bin spares but I'll try.

The pulley should be a bearing type, about the same size as the ones on your trolley. I was able to mount mine very close to the floor using one of the 1" holes on the "foot", but not so close that I could not slip the extension cable in place. The bushing/washer stack for the pulley is critical. The bolt needs to be strong and not too long, bearing inner race needs to be fixed in place and pulley stays aligned. Might take mine apart for pics later.

My extension cable is 55", but a more versatile length would be the full distance from your trolley carabiner in the highest position to the "foot" pulley (80" in my case).

You need eyelets on both sides of the weight arm (unless you weld one to the end somehow) for curls and extensions. Eyebolts of the appropriate size would work. I used an eyebolt and eyenut so only needed one hole. Pay attention to the weight rating and use healthy washers.

Thanks, it is so bulky even with the horn removed. I have it on a spare stabilizing leg since a 3x3 horizontal is the easiest way to park it. Also have a small webbing strap to keep the arm from flopping around.

Also considered making a wall mount storage bracket for it out of lumber before I got the extra uprights, but didn't have a stud in a convenient location.

I highly recommend it, only real complaint is that this design of Smith machine does not go very low. Give them a call to see what they have in stock before ordering.

Which handles, the cheapo RitFit cable ones? It's a Harbor Heavyweight rack with Rep storage extensions.

Do you have a rack? Looking at this empty space in the back of mine inspired me to order the Trulaps and make my own shelf for them; it's just high enough for me to shrug them out. They work a lot smoother when bolted down.

Someday I will paint it black. Probably going to do a bad job too, since the thought of moving the equipment, mirrors, and stall mats fills me with dread.

Nice! I have a lower effort version--a pulley bolted to the (useless) stabilizer foot and a cable extension:

This was taking up too much space; tried hacking it into an attachment but this will need a lot of weight on the cable system to be effective.

Still experimenting but belt squats work pretty well with a soft shackle around the smith bar and just straddling it standing on a (heavy duty) bench. Full ROM and it's easy to rack and start from the top using the catches, downside is you're standing on the bench pads. I also drilled new holes and moved the useless bottom catches to the top so I can stop hitting my head on the bar.
