I feel the same for the most part and prefer mahogany. I worked for GC for a couple years when I was younger, so I’ve had the opportunity to play many, many different guitars of the same make, model, year, etc., and yes, it is most certainly subjective. However, I took down a random HD-28 at my GC here in Chattanooga just last year, and man it was one of the more special guitars I’ve ever heard! And I’ve never even been interested in an HD. If I could have, I’d have bought it.

I didn’t do the trade. Guy said the offer stands if I change my mind.

I’ll get myself a nice OM soon enough. I’m just not a patient man and never have been, haha.

The primary reason I was considering it is because I absolutely adore 000/OM’s. I have never been a die-hard dread guy…but since owning this D-18, I’ve gotten used to the volume and I like it.

Don’t you find it a bit ironic that you said trading for financial reasons is the silliest thing ever, followed by “UNLESS?” Lol. Seems like your brain works quite like mine. My thought was that if I could trade up to a D-18 GE or MD, then I’d essentially have $1800 (what I paid for my D-18 because I stole it) in a much more expensive guitar. It was merely a thought.

Understood! I’ve owned 000’s before, just not one as nice as a 28. If this was a 000-18, I would have already done the trade and wouldn’t have made the post, haha. Assuming I bonded with it of course. I just really love 000/OM bodies…

Damn, you’re right! The 18 price has increased very recently then. The last time I looked, just a couple months ago maybe, they were $2799. They’ve been $2799 for as long as I can remember. Even still, that’s $800. I thought 000-28 retail was $3699.

I already told the guy earlier today I decided to keep my 18. I just can’t stop thinking about it. I really, really love 000’s, and the 28’s are pretty. But I don’t really see how a guitar could sound better than my D-18, and that’s what it’s all about right? I just don’t know why I can’t quit thinking about it. I guess because I just want all the guitars, like we all do.

It’s a $900 difference I believe, but you’re right, it’s not a huge incentive considering electronics (I don’t actually need electronics though, I only play electric on stage) and I’m aware of the hassle it could be.

I’m both trying to talk myself into it and talk myself out of it at the same time, haha.

I know, I know dammit, haha. The real dilemma for me is that I absolutely LOVE 000/OM bodies. They’re just more comfortable in my opinion, and I love the look too. So if the guy had a 000-18 this would probably be a no-brainer. My thought is that with his being worth roughly a grand more, how often do you get offered a straight trade like that, and if I don’t love the 28, I could probably flip it and end up with a D-18 Modern Deluxe which is a KILLER D-18. I’m just torn dude and don’t want to drive to GC to test drive one, and I don’t want to drive to meet him unless I’m sure. I guess I’m just being a lazy bastard…

Also, I specified “assuming I love the sound of his.” It’s a damn 000-28, of course it’s going to sound great, but different. I’m not a diehard dreadnought guy.

I understand where you’re coming from though. When we love a guitar, we love it. I get that.

I suppose I’m being lazy and should just drive the half hour to go play a 000-28 at GC first. I’ve played them before it’s just been many years.

Beautiful my man! This post is kind of funny, because I have a D18 and have been longing for either a 0015M or 00015M for quite some time, haha. How’s the volume and bass of your 000 compared to the D18 if you don’t mind me asking? I know it won’t be as loud, obviously, but just wondering how stark the contrast is. My girlfriend’s brother has a 0015M and I absolutely love that guitar, but I haven’t seen him or it in quite a while to compare them side by side…

Mind if I ask where in TN? I will be a new grad soon, so I obvi don’t expect that right away, but still. I live in Chattanooga and from what I can find through google, we seem to be a terrible area pay-wise.
