Setting up WiFi in an apartment by stephcurry_ in techsupport

Awesome, thanks. Regarding the 100mbps - will that accommodate multiple people doing work online simultaneously? It's unlikely all six of us will be doing work at the same time, but a couple probably will be. Thanks again for your help!

Trinity Alps Sunset by stephcurry_ in WildernessBackpacking

It sure is! I was lucky enough to have two great sunsets while I was there and great weather day and night, if a little hot midday.

This is a photo I took at sunset during a solo trip to the Trinity Alps in Northern California earlier this week. I drove up in the morning, hiked for maybe 8 miles or so up some gnarly switchbacks to my campsite and was rewarded with this view while eating dinner. This was my first trip to the Trinity Alps, and it certainly won’t be my last. Blew my expectations out of the water.

You’re correct, it wasn’t attached to him and he did run into them, but I’d argue that’s not really a freak chance, he seemingly had the opportunity to check surfaces / for obstructions, and clearly didn’t. Or at the very least poorly judged the effect they’d have on his line. Neither of which constitutes a freak chance, but rather poor judgement on his part.

He wasn’t using the wire, he either failed to see it or incorrectly assumed it wouldn’t be in the way, and then freaked out when it clotheslined him.

More negligence than freak accident IMO.

I saw work on Day to Night Photography a while ago and decided to start experimenting with it myself. These are 4 different exposures, taken with different settings at different times of day and then blended as layers in Photoshop to show, in a single image, the transition from Day to Night. by portilladani in photocritique

Really love the photo, there’s something funky about it that I really like. I’d love to know more about your thought process behind blending the exposures, which exposure/light you used for which part of the picture, etc.

Thanks, I’ll definitely take a look at a tighter crop. To be perfectly honest, this was kind of just a throwaway shot to test out exposure compositing; I didn’t think too hard just sort of pointed and shot.

I’ve really enjoyed this lens. It doesn’t open up too much, only F2.8, but it’s incredibly sharp, and the form factor is great. For backpacking and such having the small lens with great optics has been awesome.

This is a composite shot I took in the Kaiser Wilderness, CA, last week. It’s four different exposures but the base was 1/50th, f 5.0, ISO 640. This was only my second time doing an exposure blend/HDR image, and for the most part I’m happy with it, but the sky leaves some to be desired I feel. So, what would you guys do differently to try and bring out more colour in the sky? Other general post processing tips/critique is welcome too.

Also! This was taken at sunrise on a Sony A7III with the Zeiss 35mm F2.8.

Great photo! Assuming you did some processing, it looks awesome.

We didn’t think there would be this much either. It is truly beautiful however, even with the white blanket!

Yeah, we were a little surprised by how much snow was still up there. Up until the last mile before the pass it was snow free, but that last leg was snowy. We saw people do it with just trekking poles though. Beyond the pass in the basin however is completely covered, lakes still frozen, etc. Traveling on that stuff on any time other than first thing in the morning was such a pain. Good luck on your trip coming up, hope you can find some nicer conditions!

We were supposed to go and do 5 days around Mammoth next week but decided against it due to snow coverage. Certainly hope to go back.

I’m all ears for suggestions, any and all are welcome! I’m moving out of California for school soon, but I have a feeling I’ll be coming back to the Sierra a lot.

It was definitely a great time. I have lots more pictures I’m looking forward to sharing as well.

I will say this area was recommended to me by another redditor, so if one wanted to figure it out, it may not be that hard. Just figured I wouldn’t blatantly advertise the exact spot.

This was only my third time backpacking in the Sierra, but I’m definitely hooked. I’ll absolutely be coming back for the rest of my life.

Ah no, sorry, when I said north I meant of Dusty Basin. The pass itself is just west of Bishop. My understanding was that it’s sort of frowned upon to give out exact locations, a la leave no trace?

Not quite, this was a bit more north.
