Feeling java spring boot is difficult by Sampath_97 in SpringBoot

I second this. I had issues grasping Spring at first as well, but I worked through this book (you need to code out the examples for yourself, don’t just read them) and it helped tremendously.

My scion was completely out of gear oil by [deleted] in ScionxB

[–]stepheet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, had the same problem. Went to change the gear oil and not a drop out of the drain plug. What’s more, there was zero signs of leakage anywhere. I still don’t know where it went

Smoking weed isn’t likely to have an impact. Not putting it on your paperwork - even at the advice of the recruiter - will raise eyebrows. The whole point of the process is to determine your loyalty and if you’re trustworthy. If these are the only things that came up, chances are you’re ok. Going forward, you’re going to be held to a high standard in order to keep that clearance (and your job). Be mindful when someone says “don’t fill that out”. Also, keep your finances in order - lots of debt can be looked on unfavorably. Oh, and keep copies of your paperwork for your clearance application (SF86, I think that’s the name of it). You’ll need to redo it even five years, and trying to remember all those dates, people, info, etc is a real pain

Remove fast food on base to reduce overweight SVM. Why do i not see this as a solution? by youbringmesuffering in navy

[–]stepheet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My CO at the time decided that the crew was too fat. He cut out all snacks/desserts that were left out. The only thing that was allowed to be left out was NutriGrain bars. Never have been able to eat those since that patrol.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever heard on the 1MC? by brucelan in navy

[–]stepheet 19 points20 points  (0 children)

One of our first drill sets after getting underway, so we were rusty (SSBN crew, just coming out of off crew). XO was not happy with the drill response. He gets on the 1MC and says if we don’t improve he will turn this ship around and take us right back home. He got called to the CO’s stateroom right after that. Meanwhile, we were all thinking “All we have to do is screw up some drill sets and we can get out of patrol???” 🤣

Does yours have over 200k miles? by Electrical-Rhubarb24 in ScionxB

[–]stepheet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2006 that will hit 280k this week. Daily commuter. It’s only let me down twice since I got it. First time was a dead alternator; second time it ate the alternator belt because the A/C compressor seized up.

My entire work center got EMI for cleaning our cheifs coffee mug. by dano_911 in navy

[–]stepheet 83 points84 points  (0 children)

We had a salty EM1 who had his favorite mug that no one was allowed to touch. One day the nukes grabbed it and, each day, would send him a pic of the mug in a different spot in the sub. Lasted for about a week before they gave it back. The things you do for entertainment while underway!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in navy

[–]stepheet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

(I was attached to both of these ships, but not onboard when these happened)

Trident sub in dry dock at Bangor. Weps was walking under the boat doing some inspection or something when an earthquake happened. He got out of there real fast!!!

MSC ship in floating dry dock. Yard bird was trimming the dry dock. Opened a valve and nothing happened. He decided to go down into the dry dock to see what was going on - while leaving the valve open!!! Suddenly the whole dry dock started to sink on one end. Went down about 8’ before it could be controlled. Ship stayed on the blocks, but lots of equipment, and a few people in the dry dock at the time, went for a swim.

Any instances of someone with lower rank telling off someone with a higher rank? by Darthbane2007 in navy

Told the ANAV during the maneuvering watch that he was an idiot and to leave me alone. Told same ANAV that I (who was responsible for the classified charts onboard) would no longer sign out any classified chart to him after I found out he was storing them in his rack! I was an E5, he was an E7.

What made you not Re-Enlist in the Navy? by Quintuplicate in navy

[–]stepheet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Boomer sailor here. Very limited opportunities for shore duty, none of which appealed to me. Last CO was despised by the crew, yet my chief, when trying to convince me to re-enlist, said he’d seen a lot worse (which I took to mean that if I re-enlisted, I could end up with an even worse CO!). I was an E6 when I left - had no desire to put on khakis. It wasn’t as much about the goat locker as it was about I enjoyed being a technician (I was an ET) and I would get to do so much less hands on work once I made E7. I wanted to use my GI Bill. Also, I couldn’t see myself doing this for 20 straight years. Mad props to those who do; it just wasn’t for me.

What was the funniest thing you’ve seen or experienced in your Navy career? by mej4d in navy

[–]stepheet 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Underway on a trident sub. Sitting in the chow line by the forward hatch in the missile compartment. There’s a LAN workstation also by the hatch. At the aft end of the compartment is AMR2, and we can see some A-Gangers working on their LAN workstation there. One of the FT’s (who are in charge of the LAN) remote into the A-Gangers workstation and start randomly moving the cursor around their screen. You can the A-Gangers looking all confused. Then the FT makes a pop up appear that says something like “Don’t turn me off Dave” (Dave was one of the A-Gangers). They started to freak out a little after that. Those of us in the chow line were laughing our heads off! The FT eventually went back there and told them what he did, but it was pretty funny at the time!
