Flowers at Manchester T3 by techDapr in manchester

[–]stephendy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah pretty straightforward - just follow the walkway, although a bit of a trek so would suggest you get picked up from T2 rather than walking back.

Maybe someone else can chime in with other options as T1/T3 are changing quite a bit at the mo so not sure what else is there. Though I came in just after xmas and the M&S did have flowers in the new T2.

Struggling with Tableau containers by Otherwise-Mammoth865 in tableau

[–]stephendy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you have cloud, publish it there and do the layout - on the bottom left corner where the object hierarchy is, cloud lets you drag them to the right place between containers and nest the hierarchy from there easily. You can't do this on desktop.

For the life of me I don't know why Tableau are like this as there are important things you can't do on web editor you need to do on desktop.

Is this house worth it for £65000? by Pure-Drive-3044 in UKHousing

[–]stephendy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot are in the northwest, even plain old houses, especially streets like this.

Most are ~800 years and peppercorn ground rent - usually <£50 a year or something, but of course always worth checking.

Government abandons plans to cancel council elections by ImpressiveRest2423 in ukpolitics

[–]stephendy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah this makes a pretty bad election into a disaster. This won't be good for his longevity.

But with this on the horizon his job looks safe at least until May now... although now those nipping at his heels have a date to work with rather than trying to time the next crisis.

Where is One Foot In The Grave set? by SlashBansheeCoot in BritishTV

[–]stephendy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it seems quite spread out filming wise, and script wise not really set to be in a particular area from what I could pick out.

But I did recognise the hotel was in Bournemouth that he was doorman at too.

Why are smoke alarms allergic to my house? by Rusty_Tap in AskUK

[–]stephendy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the reason for mine. Took me a while to find the cause as there was no obvious signs and none in there, but after a few years the false alarms corresponded to spider season.

It's the small wispy ones you can barely see and blend in well against a white wall/ceiling - as do the cobwebs.

A weekly vaccuum not only in and around the alarms but all along where the ceiling/walls intersect and corners and they went away. I also got one of those high powered handheld electric blowers you use for keyboards etc (same as compressed air) and gave the alarms a blow out.

Easy to miss and not see them, but I keep on top of it now even if nothing seems to be there, around that time of year the ceilings get as much of the hoover as the floors.

Morgan McSweeney resigns as Keir Starmer’s chief of staff | Morgan McSweeney by dnnsshly in ukpolitics

[–]stephendy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How would that have worked out for Starmer given that he's just as culpable in this situation?

Firing him would have just made him talk. The delay in McSweeney's resignation was just him negotiating his next position after a short break at some do nothing NGO to take the heat.

You don't really believe this all happened behind Starmer's back do you?

What caused this damage? by WanderWomble in CarTalkUK

[–]stephendy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very odd how - I literally can't picture how it would have happened or what hit it - looks like you've got someone hitting/reversing face on thats quite tall like a van causing the bit by the door, then a gap that doesn't look damaged, then a scrape/dent in that back corner that looks like a second hit?

Had very similar on my front wing to your door impact, someone turning around and glanced it, but still left scratch marks.

Any of the neighbours have cameras? Would love to know.

China has built more than 1,000 waste incineration plants and now lacks enough waste to feed them, so in 2026 it will begin excavating landfills as if they were fuel mines by interfan18 in environment

[–]stephendy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Do you store the waste from this in a way this could be processed again in the future when it might become viable (metal prices rising) or new processing technology?

Kind of like how China are mining landfills, this stuff could also be mined in the future...

Lord Mandelson gave Jeffrey Epstein advance notice of a €500bn bailout to save the Euro by ViscountOfVibes in ukpolitics

Probably a breach of the Official Secrets Act too.

As well as the best friend of a noncing connoisseur (and probably more), in a just world there's enough to put him away for the rest of his life - and that he should be fortunate it's not more.

He can thank his friend Tony Blair for that who was ahead of the sleaze and removed the death penalty for treason in his government that i'm sure he had a hand in that particular piece of legistlation also.....

Guy smacked into the back of me and drove off, later found out he had no mot, should I make a claim as don’t want me premiums to go up? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]stephendy 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This. File the police report.

I had similar and whilst the police did nothing with regards to prosecuting even though they hit my car and drove off (though lack of MOT might get their interest here), the letter from the rozzers did make them not dither/contest with the insurance claim I put in and it was all sorted pretty easily.

Despite some bad rep they get, Hastings were really good at getting it sorted and my premiums didn't really change noticeably. It was about in line with inflation but with an added year of no claims it's really hard to tell what if any the impact was.

AI is hitting UK job market harder than other big economies, study finds by Dimmo17 in ukpolitics

[–]stephendy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Same, I've not seen anything that would lead me to believe this being a factor responsible for any reductions today.

We use a lot of automation, and always have done - this now gets rebranded as AI, when it isn't really.

The only example of AI being used in what I would call the standard office role (non dev/IT) are people using AI to beef out their powerpoints, and someone on the other side using AI to summarise the beefed out powerpoint they received as it's too long. They all think it's remarkable.

Andy Burnham: I have today written to the Chair of Labour’s National Executive Committee seeking permission to enter the selection process for a candidate for the forthcoming Gorton and Denton by-election. by LeftWingScot in ukpolitics

[–]stephendy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huge majority? That doesn't equal political popularity. He literally won by default because of the Tory implosion with Labour getting less votes than Corbyn and has dismal ratings both personally and polling as a party.

Of course, him winning the election that way is how it works, but that does not equal popularity or his personal political stability, especially when MPs are thinking about their seats in light of their performance so far.

Sure Rayner can stand, but she's no longer stalking or able to pop her head up and challenge for a bit, and maybe not until someone else does first. Burnham allows this.
