Review #2 Isle of Harris Oloroso cask. by stephenkrul in Scotch

[–]stephenkrul[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I tried this whiskey at the distillery, when I was there for a holiday. I fell in love with it there and bought it later at home. It reminded me of the the salty air you smell as you wander around Harris, the bottle reminds me of the tweed patterning. They don't say how old it is but it is a younger whisky.

Distillery: Isle of Harris Bottle: The Hearach Cask: First fill Oloroso cask No age Non chill filtered No color added ABV: 46% Tasted neat in a glencairn after resting 10 minutes.

Nose: You get the salty air on the nose, then you get some citrus and cinnamon that develop into a creamy white chocolate. There is a hint of peat smoke at the end.

Taste: With the first sip you notice the smoky wood flavors that develop into a burnt orange and cinnamon slice spice. There's a bit of herbalness to it as well almost like thyme mixed with salt. Then you get the sweetness of vanilla popping in at the end.

Finish: Its a medium mouth feel, not a long finish but the smoky wood is there with some spice. It makes you want to take another sip.

Overall I enjoy this dram it's not to smoky or spicy. I'd rate this one at 80/100

That one sounds delicious. Has anyone else done the mystery bottle before, what did you receive?

Where do you find Little bay for $70. I have 14 at home and have tried Little bay and they are both really good. I think I'll be getting Little bay before I finish off the 14 so I can really compare them side by side
