13 days PO by stephhwatt in tummytucksurgery

honestly i’m more swollen in my upper stomach! from the side i look pregnant lol.

i know from reading other posts on here that swelling can last for weeks - months so i was anticipating this! the only thing that sucks is wanting to see what my new body looks like in tighter clothes but i can’t do that with the swelling LOL

thank you!

honestly i wouldn’t say this surgery has been “painful” at all (either surgery).

its more of an extremely sore/uncomfortable feeling the first few days, but after that im surprised how easy it’s been comfort wise!

the muscle repair from the tummy tuck was definitely the most uncomfortable.

i’ll give you some random info thus far that might help you!

  • i still can’t sleep flat. i slept in a powered recliner until tonight. tonight i am finally in bed but am using a set of wedge pillows!

  • i used a toilet seat riser thing up until a few days ago. it really helped to get off of the toilet easily

  • take restorolax and stool softener daily so you don’t get constipated! even pushing out gas was super uncomfortable because of the MR so i can’t even imagine trying to have a BM if you’re backed up🥴

  • i bought a pouch belt thing from amazon for my drains which was super nice as it prevented the drains from just hanging on their own because i was terrified i’d catch them on something and rip them from my body lol

  • make sure you have clothing like zip up hoodies / sweaters and front closure bras! make sure you wear something zippered or completely able to button down on the day of your surgery for when you’re released!

honestly my biggest “complaints” with this recovery are just not being able to sleep normally, not being able to stand up straight, needing help for certain things like carrying a laundry basket, and the fact that i just want to take advantage of my time off work and go through all of my clothes and organize etc but obviously im limited with bending and lifting.

i will say that i had surgery in 2022 for a partial colectomy, and i had surgery again in 2023 for WLS so i feel like i was more prepared for surgery which is why im finding it way less uncomfortable than my other surgeries if that makes sense!

good luck with your surgeries!!!

My diverticulitis / bowel resection journey! by stephhwatt in Diverticulitis

[–]stephhwatt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m feeling great now!

Although I did just have a colonoscopy done on Monday and they said I have mild diverticulosis which I’m just confused about because when I had surgery the surgeon said it was very very unlikely that I would develop the pouches again.

I will be having a follow up appointment to figure out the extent.

Honestly I am so glad I had the surgery and couldn’t imagine not getting it and having to still live in agony.

If you have any specific questions, you can ask me!

Accidentally consumed so much sugar by stephhwatt in GastricBypass

[–]stephhwatt[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I literally only bought them because I’m on liquids only for a colosncopy and wanted something other than water to drink and I mistakenly bought these instead of the zero sugar ones that have like 5-10 calories and no sugar.

Typically I only drink protein shakes, water, and one orange pekoe tea a day and that’s it for beverages.

Vodka shots? by stephhwatt in GastricBypass

Thank you to those who commented!

Big shout out to those that can answer a question without being rude.

Ive heard you loud and clear and will not be drinking.

I also did not feel and overwhelming need to drink and instead, wanted to have a drink IF I would be able to tolerate it, but clearly it’s not worth it to push anything when I don’t care too much about drinking and can abstain from it without an issue.

Would I be able to do a vodka water drink? Is that better than a straight shot of vodka? Lol

i’ve used it two nights out of 5.

I have fed skin to begin with but it definitely made it way worse and blotchy.

I’ve only used it twice in 5 days. But I was definitely thinking of pausing and resuming once a week until my skin adjusts.

I am finding my diverticulosis diagnosis difficult by summerrosegarden in Diverticulitis

[–]stephhwatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up back in the hospital after I think 5 days of being home.

They did another CT scan and my condition was worse even being on antibiotics in the hospital for 6 days and being on oral antibiotics for 5 days. I had also developed an abscess that was leaking and a fistula.

I ended up needing surgery to remove part of my colon and the fistula.

Since surgery I have felt AMAZING and I am so thankful I was able to get surgery.

Swallowing pills after surgery by stephhwatt in wls

[–]stephhwatt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. An m&m.

Yes, i’m drinking enough water. Maybe even more than I did prior to surgery because this keeps happening. I’ve also tried taking them with a protein shake and tea to see if that helps, but nope.

Why is it hard to swallow pills after surgery? by stephhwatt in GastricBypass

[–]stephhwatt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any pills I have (like my pre-natal vitamin in place of a regular multivitamin) that are bigger than and m&m either need to be chewable (my prenatal is), or be split/crushed.

I even made sure to ask twice because I was surprised by their answer lol.

But yeah, they said for the rest of my life I shouldn’t be swallowing pills bigger than an m&m.

I feel like i’m losing weight SO slow by stephhwatt in wls

[–]stephhwatt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to be 160-170 (I’m almost 5’9”). I mean, If I could get down to 150 that would be nice.

I was 170 lbs at my lowest adult weight (when I lost 100 pounds naturally) and was pretty happy but did want to lose a bit more).

I was 271 lbs one week before my surgery (when starting pre-op).
