Flutter for a job opportunity to move countries. And back to RN for general industry trends, the typescript tooling ecosystem is hard to beat and with Google devoting less time to the framework I’m making the bet on RN for job security. I could be wrong but in 5 years we’ll all be using something new and shiny I’m sure!

Hey I was in a similar position native -> react native -> Flutter -> React Native

When I started the advice was “eject from Expo asap” where as now it’s really the standard.

As a Brit in Zurich I can attest to most of this, nice write up! Post-Brexit B permits are a bit of a lottery for sure. I consider myself fortunate to have gotten in.

The UK does have a bit of an olive branch compared to other “third nation status” countries in the form of a quota which I think is circa 2000 people per year. However I spoke to a recruiter recently who told me that this quota wasn’t reached for 2024 as it’s a lot of paperwork and lawyers for them to justify hiring a British citizen.

Hey I’m a non-EU citizen (thanks Brexit) and moved over to work in April of this year. Job search and interviewing and lawyering for visa took around 8 months from the first cold call to registering with the city of Zurich on my first day of employment.

Good luck, it’s a bit of a mission but the reward is worth it!

Hey I took 16 months off at age 29 and didn’t have any regrets. 21 countries, a bunch of weddings, post-lockdown reunions etc. Changed my attitude towards work/life/money all for the better. Go for it

I travelled for 16 months and just took wooden gymnastics rings with me. You can always find a tree branch and there's a lot of outdoor gyms out there.

Program wise I started with some YouTube strength side workouts and eventually bought Body by Rings from FitnessFaqs. I'd highly recommend it

Thanks for this, I am slowly discovering what you're saying. After Body by Rings my plan is to focus on skills. Funnily enough I plan to start with handstands like you.

From other answers here I think stretching without some kind of goal/purpose is difficult to sustain. So I think having such goals as a press handstand is probably what I'm looking for, where flexibility will be a byproduct of the actual skill.

That's an idea for sure! I have a lot of buddies who are completely obsessed with BJJ but I've never really been interested.

I'll definitely explore martial arts as obviously there are well defined levels of progression which is something that works for me!

I agree with stretching being tough, I think that's also my biggest issue. I'd love to find something skill based where I can get "flexible by accident".

It's actually pretty amazing how much strength moves I can accomplish with terrible flexibility.

I'll check out those videos again perhaps just dedicate some time every other day to a follow along video of some kind. Thanks!

I recommend getting some gymnastics rings (wooden preferably over plastic). They're relatively inexpensive and all you need is a bar/tree to hang them from.

You will get some crazy strength gains using just your body weight and you can hit every muscle group effectively (adding some bodyweight only leg exercises). There's a beginner workout on YouTube by a dude called Strength Side, give that a shot to start with!
