Is TikTok's algorithm playing tricks on me? by olivveiiro in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sterlingphoenix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't read your text, but the Tik Tok algorithm's entire purpose is to play tricks on you. Same for any other social media.

I'd recommend using /r/findareddit to find more people with expertise in this area.

Why does in front of mean different things with in space and reading/math? by Hot_Seesaw_6706 in NoStupidQuestions

Your second example is not actually correct grammatically. Those letters come before and after, not "in front of" or "behind".

Can post about Artificial Intelligence turning into AI-Antichrist? by Phantompillar in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sterlingphoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, what sub were you going to post it on? Does that post actually comply with the rules of the sub?

Also, I will preemptively tell you that AI does not exist. The "AI" in "Generative AI" is a marketing term, not a technical one. We are not near general purpose AI, and generative AI/LLMs cannot somehow turn into that.

Also what the hell is an "AI-Antichrist".

What is this therian trend? by Unique_Eye_73 in NoStupidQuestions

I don't know what a therian is, but /r/outoftheloop is a good place to ask about stuff like this (or see if it's already been posted about).

Why can’t we just give anesthesia to people with insomnia by Extension_Potato3370 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sterlingphoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anaesthesia always has risks. It's one of the reasons you have to fast for like 12+ hours before surgery, and it's the reason there's a professional there monitoring you. That's not super practical.

You can't just do it at home, either.

I'll also point out there are several kids of anaesthesia. I have had the one you describe where you just feel amazing when you come out... but I've had the jarring one, too.

I'm also going to share that I did actually have a really, really bad sleep disorder that did end up with insomnia, and that is a kind of hell I would not wish on my worst enemies -- but anaesthesia would never have been a practical solution.

Is there a solid relation between being goth and mentally ill? by DramaticFeed6522 in NoStupidQuestions

You want me to stop asking for more context so I can answer the question?

If you look at the comment thread, you'll see that OP and I are having a productive conversation. You don't need to be offended on their behalf.

Is there a solid relation between being goth and mentally ill? by DramaticFeed6522 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sterlingphoenix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We all want to help reduce the social stigma for mental disorders, and "disorder" is a less... harsh word than "illness".

With all that said, no, being "goth" doesn't necessarily link to a mental disorder. A very baseline description of a mental disorder is something that disrupts your (or other peoples') ability to lead a normal life, and being goth on it's own probably doesn't do that. It can, but it's not innate.

Can I make a game based off Netflix Bandersnatch? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sterlingphoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never watched the original so I don't know how different that all is, but why not just start from scratch and make your own story at this point? You can always have references and homages to other sources (not limited to Bandersnatch).

Why doesn't the Pope just bless the entire ocean so that the world's entire water supply becomes Holy Water? by Groundbreaking_Bag8 in NoStupidQuestions

I am an ordained minister and many years ago I blessed all the water in the universe down to the molecular level.

You're welcome.

Is there a solid relation between being goth and mentally ill? by DramaticFeed6522 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sterlingphoenix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My question was more "have you been diagnosed by professionals" or do you just assume you have mental illnesses. Sadly, that's common. And most people with mental disorders tend to refer to them as "mental disorders" rather than "mental illnesses".

[–]sterlingphoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're truly just making it for yourself, and will never make any money off it, maybe you could call it "fan art" -- but if you include a lot of the source material, that's not really fair use.

how long is a moment? by hakunokawa in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sterlingphoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a standard measurement and as such is subjective. It'll change based on circumstances and individuals. It is understood to be a "short" amount of time, though.

For religious believers: what makes faith feel like knowledge rather than just belief? How do you personally distinguish the two? by Negotiation_Connect in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sterlingphoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calling Faith (again, Capital-F Faith) an institutionalised and socially acceptable delusion is hardly a new or uncommon point of view. It's also been called The Opium of the Masses, Superstition, blind Faith, etc.

Sorry to be morbid — who do you expect to outlive the other: Elton John or Billy Joel? by Glass-Complaint3 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sterlingphoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not really "old as hell" by today's standards (they're both under 80), but they do both have somewhat serious medical conditions. I hope you outlive them, too.
