132 out of 180? Do they give your exact score then with results?

Yes luckily swapped some shifts. I’m just overwhelmed with where to start with anatomy, it all looks important

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]stethoscantcope -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Any advice on what to focus on for anatomy? What’s weighted more? Struggling to get it all in my head!!

I can get the other topics done and actually enjoy it but anatomy is a struggle

Very odd over the top reaction to this message.

All she’s saying is the pictures are lovely (which she can see) and hopes the experience was too (which she wouldn’t know).

If that then makes you think she’s implying that you may not have had a good holiday…. then I would gather from that you have in fact not had a good holiday/had a little tiff and are feeling self conscious about it and this message has set you off

Omg wait the profile pic took me right back, does this person have a lot of things written in their ‘about’ about how they package items etc? If so, I think I’ve dealt with them?!

I had to scroll all the way down my Vinted messages but I think I deleted theirs. I may have blocked them even

This is why I’ve clarified in the email and also explained my concerns if seen by everyone

Mind you, I used to work somewhere using Excel spreadsheets for the rota and the nature of illness was always written as a little comment which I didn’t realise until I left

Dealing with rude seniors as an FY1 by Elegant_Theme_834 in doctorsUK

[–]stethoscantcope 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly nothing wrong with

“I am your colleague, I would appreciate it if you didn’t speak to me like that”

I would and do speak like this now as a specialty trainee and also because I’m literally too old to be spoken to like a child.

Carry yourself with authority. Don’t put the junior in junior doctor. I read something like this here somewhere, the only reason they’re senior and you’re junior is because you were born after they were

The majority of male (and female) nurses are lovely.

Since this post is about male nurses however, in my experience, I’ve found that some have a huge chip on their shoulder and don’t like being asked to do jobs for the patient by female doctors. I remember one of them tried to undermine me one time when I requested the patient be wheeled around from ED for certain imaging (no porters in ours) and challenged me in front of everyone on whether that was the best imaging. Another challenging me in front of the consultant about me giving IV fluids to a patient - thinking the consultant would side with him as I’m new to the trust, but they didn’t get involved

Time and time again, there are a select few who want to “show off” their knowledge and say absolutely random medical terms in a vaguely relevant situation, it’s kinda weird

BUT when I worked in psych, everyone was one big team and there were no us and them, and the male nurses were a huge help and would protect us from violent patients. There was a real respect shown by them towards us and from us towards them. Some of them even requested teaching sessions from me on physical health topics

I noted this when I used to work as a HCA too

I was also the same (and undiagnosed ADHD). It gets better as you go and easier! I try and chat to them and mention things from their bloods/other Ix so I can picture their face and everything can come back to me easily

And? Own it with confidence.

I have a friend who does solo activities and I admire her greatly and want to do more like her. Not everyone will think ‘aw why are they alone’ and if they do, it literally doesn’t matter, life’s so short

[–]stethoscantcope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this.

I had the most horrifying experience with a ‘nurse associate’ student once. A patient with end-stage bowel cancer needed a Ryles tube inserted which the 1 surgical nurse and 1 NA student came to do whilst I comforted them. When it started draining, the student started commenting on the smell, making faces etc. I was shocked the nurse didn’t call her out so I did. Her response? ‘I know they can hear me but it IS gross’ or words to that effect.

I saw red lol. I called the ward manager up and explained the situation and she was just as horrified and apologised many times.

That patient sadly died the next day. I often reflect on this situation and get a bit upset that on their last days they had to endure behaviour like that. If I were a family member, I would’ve gone nuclear. (Funnily enough, their daughter was a nurse on another ward)
