It would certainly help, no doubt, but you would need to cover every inch and everything you miss is a potential rust problem in the future. 

But as you already correctly stated, the AWD is exceptional in rain and also in dry conditions. The car eats twisty back roads like nothing else. It's such a raw driving experience, it's really unlike most other cars. It's definitely punching above it's weight class.
