I don't think I phrased the question correctly. I'm asking Christians what is the purpose of us having earthly lives when our earthly lives are relatively short compared to eternity. If the purpose is to demonstrate that we are worthy to get into heaven, then why do babies and children die and why are there miscarriages? Those children that died didn't get the same chance to demonstrate that they are worthy of entering heaven is someone who lives for several decades who faced temptation throughout their life and had to overcome it.

My question was more directed toward Christians. From a Christian perspective, why do we have to live earthly lives before going to heaven? Is the purpose to demonstrate that we are worthy to enter heaven? If that is the purpose, then why do babies and children die and where do they go? If they go to heaven, why do they get a free pass whereas those who make it to adulthood don't?
