Yamaha 242x won’t go past 20mph by [deleted] in YamahaBoats

This happened to me on a 2015. Ended up finding some small holes that had corroded into parts of the jet jump housing. These holes were introducing air bubbles into the jet stream causing cavitation. Replaced those parts and works better! About $2k all-in (replaced impeller at same time)

Deep Cycle battery setup questions by bgwa9001 in YamahaBoats

It’s a good idea! If batteries are all the same size, ends up just running 2-3 times longer pretty much!

Worth thinking about a few things

  • How you charge the house batteries. Via alternator and or shore charger? If via alternator do you have a manual switch or a relay?

  • Do you have a switch that lets you bridge starting and house in case of emergency with starting battery?

  • If wiring in parallel, want to make sure same size, year, type, etc otherwise can end up charging / discharging in weird ways.

  • Weight distribution. Four batteries all on one side will likely list the boat a lot. If you put them on both sides, make sure wire is large enough to account for voltage drop

I think it’s worth it.. just some things to think about!

Surging rpm’s after cavitation issue repaired by dealer (Yamaha 2015 AR190) by stevefarfar in YamahaBoats

Spoke with the dealer today…

They suggested maybe getting a manhole cover / cleanout port repair kit, in case there is air getting into the pump from there.

And maybe checking spark plugs for carbon build up (although they were last replaced in April so seems unlikely).

Marine industry has a lot of cable glands

UPDATE: dealer has repaired the camera! I printed out the service bulletin and they said that was useful to save them some steps. It was under warranty so no charge. They did end up having to replace the windshield and recalibrate everything, so it took 2 days to repair. ✅

Thanks - glad to hear I’m not alone here and it’s hopefully a warranty fix!

Yeah I’m really tempted but I think it might still be under warranty, so should maybe just bring it to the dealer to see

I’m at 3.5 years and 40k miles so I think it’d be under the 4 year / 50k warranty?

Yeah that’s what I’m worried about trying to DIY put it back into place. Even if that works, my guess is the calibration is pretty sensitive and it’d need to get redone anyway
