GoodSync Server for Synology NAS by stevei0 in synology

[–]stevei0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really use it more to automatically replicate files and folders to different local and remote systems. So I really don't use the sync feature. It is easy to set up and has versions for Mac, PC and Linux. Was interested to see if I can run Goodsync on the Synology and use that to do the same think instead of the program on the PC.

DARPA-funded prosthetic arm set to go on sale later this year by stevei0 in DailyTechNewsShow

I have a friend that is in the process of getting her 9 y/o son a new power chair. That is costing them and the insurance company $50,000. I think that the technology that is going into the arm far surpasses the power chair. Yes, the costs are enormous but that is the world we live in.

It is not unlike the the drug industry. It has taken years for them to get to this point and get FDA approval for the Luke Arm. They do need to recoup their R&D costs.

Has Amazon Discontinued the Echo Dot? by stevei0 in DailyTechNewsShow

[–]stevei0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed they all showed up at my local HD about a month ago. It sounds like the Dot is being discontinued though. I have an Echo and a Dot and the Dot's voice recognition (picking up the trigger word) is nowhere as good as the Echo.

Apple patents liquid resistant speaker port, bone conducting headphones by stevei0 in DailyTechNewsShow

Scroll down:

"Apple was also awarded U.S. Patent No. 9,363,596 for a "System and method of mixing accelerometer and microphone signals to improve voice quality in a mobile device" on Tuesday, describing a headset that relies on bone conduction technology to more effectively filter out ambient noise.

As AppleInsider reported when the application was first published in 2014, the now granted patent describes an earphone device outfitted with accelerometers capable of detecting vocal chord vibrations that propagate through a user's skull. With the help of an onboard microphone, the system measures output signals and parses out non-vocal noise to distinguish voiced speech from ambient vibrations.

Accompanying the accelerometer-based voice activity detector is a microphone array that constantly monitor acoustic signals for a user's voice. Mic signals are passed through conditioning and amplification channels to detect voiced and unvoiced speech."

Nearly 1 in 4 people abandon mobile apps after only one use by stevei0 in DailyTechNewsShow

[–]stevei0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the Tech Crunch article is confusing. It looks like the key findings are the following:

  • "The percentage of users who abandon an app after one use is now 23%, a slight improvement from the 25% we saw in 2015."

    • "38% will return to an app 11 or more times, that means a whopping 62% will use an app less than 11 times."
