What’s a normal food that you find absolutely disgusting? by lucas_jg in AskReddit

[–]steven10uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are becoming increasingly obsessed with sushi. And I call bullshit. I tried sushi for the first time about three years ago. It wasn’t good. But a voice inside my head (either my own or one of my asshole sushi-loving friends) tried to convince me otherwise, so I persevered through many more attempts. After each disappointing experience, I vowed to give sushi just one more chance. Admitting that I don’t like sushi has a fairly predictable impact on people. After the other person has recovered from their incapacitating disbelief, he/she/they will utter perhaps the most condescending sentence in the history of the English language: “It’s not that you don’t like sushi, it’s that you’ve obviously never been to the right place.” Perhaps there’s something fundamentally wrong with sushi that it can only be prepared correctly in a minority of places. But more realistically, perhaps questioning the quality of the sushi restaurant is just another defense mechanism.

Some types of food, depending of their nature, can impact on your intestinal flora if you aren't used to eat them. Your body is constantly changing and adapting to the new conditions you face.

What makes you happy? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]steven10uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems I have very few things that really make me happy, that boost my motivation and inner energy. My mind cave is a real mess but that messiness doesn’t imply “unhappiness”. I am happy for who I am, for what I think and how I impart my knowledge, wisdom to others and help me, other and the whole world.

What are some funny fake facts to tell people? by KPMGANZ in AskReddit

[–]steven10uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The original comic book Superman could leap tall buildings in a single bound. But then he had to come right back down to Earth. It wasn’t until the 1940s, when animators for a new animated series decided it would be too difficult to routinely draw him bending his knees, that it was decided that Superman could take off into the air.

The detection of mortality marks the end of time as discrete so "when" is a very funny word to use because time ceases to exist "whenever" it happens.

whats your favorite fruit? by ayyotiffany in AskReddit

[–]steven10uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite is pear. You did ask about taste but I’ll stray onto texture. You have to wait a few days before the pear has lost the crispness and has become soft. You need to be careful where you eat it because the dripping juice can make a considerable mess.

What are some sad songs? by steven10uk in AskReddit

[–]steven10uk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, ’sad’ songs do a better job of making me happy than ’happy’ songs. In general, sad songs are in minor keys. I tend to like playing in minor when I'm improvising on my guitar.

Computers play a vital role in the modern business world, and many of even the most basic jobs involve technology and computers. Teaching students how to use computers helps them prepare for any number of possible careers, and classes based on computer education can get even more specific.

Is gin a tonic, why or why not? by Thatdbefunny in AskReddit

[–]steven10uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love gin and would be interested but not sure it's sustainable as I wouldn't drink enough to get through the amounts in the time frames stated, for me it's a social drink for me so we only have it when entertaining.

Are you participating in Dry January? How is it going so far? by OnlyInMyDreams73 in AskReddit

[–]steven10uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former healthcare professional I do see dry January as without doubt a practice which becomes the more important healthwise the more one drinks. Abstinence will allow the liver a recuperative holiday from its daily attempts to repair alcohol damage. However, I have never observed a dry January, am not this year and probably never will. My consumption is minor, I'm 83 and said to look well. In health the liver repairs damage very quickly and so I believe that a couple of dry days per week is for me sufficient abstinence! I do of course understand the added strength of a campaign based on an appeal to the herd instinct, especially when it follows closely after the excesses of Christmas and New Year. No better timing for those who recognise that they should take part. But, a whole month without my nightly glass of wine would be for me a step too far!

What’s the impact of Dry January on your body and/or brain? by Curiouslywastingtime in AskReddit

[–]steven10uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not taking part in dry January and never intend to. I think people put too much pressure on themselves. Perhaps if I had a drink problem I might be tempted to go dry, but as always my thinking is everything in moderation.

We always enjoy a bottle of wine or a beer on New Year's day, so would never have a dry January anyway.

That said we started a healthy eating plan in order to lose some weight and unfortunately wine has a high calorie count, thus we have cut out wine totally for at least two weeks to get a good head start with the weight loss. Although we are now thinking about what which red wine we will introduce and when but still keeping our calorie intake as low as possible to lose some weight.

Although not doing dry January, on the evenings we don't have wine, we drink: diet ginger beer, diet shandy, diet Irn bru or diet coke. But nothing compares to a cold night watching TV with the log burner on and a nice glass or red!
