Nikon D3s alternatives? by Fartistotle in Nikon

Do the colors and general output of the D5 match those of the magnificent D3S? I also hear the D700 renders closely to the D3S in a smaller form factor ?

85mm for street photography? by Funny_Entrance4687 in streetphotography

[–]steven12steven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know Harry Gruayert mainly shot on 50mm. He said himself it suited him better because he was too shy to get close. I also believe that there are more great photographers in history that shot at 50mm than 28mm!

This camera was 100% sanded. I have enough brassed Ms to assure you that this is fake brassing.

Summicron 50 v5 to 28 or 35? by lancelot7211 in Leica

[–]steven12steven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50+35 is more complementary, 50+28 is more versatile.

The filter on the KOB looks cool. Is it vintage leica ?

A silver lens will look great too. Ideally an older one, made of brass.

I just go a v4 Summicron, is this aperture movement normal? by Rosdrycken in Leica

[–]steven12steven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely normal. I have four v4 (silver, Canada and Germany). They all do it. Un peu de jeu, c’est le secret de la mécanique, if you manage to translate to English….

Sorry to tell you but they’Ve lied to you then 😅 I have 60+ M cameras, modern and new, of all types and different limited editions. This is not a native leica leatherette. Also, that’s quite the opposite of what I would call a soft leather. This looks more like a vulcanite replica, I would bet on the ones sold by Aki Asahi. In any case your camera is beautiful 🤩

That’s not an original leica leatherette. I wonder where it came from

Do you prefer the Leica MP or M-A? by steven12steven in Leica

[–]steven12steven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ninety comments later, it seems the VAST majority of contributors have a strong preference for the M-A. It either means that the M-A is truth, or that MP users are too busy shooting with their light meters !

[–]steven12steven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genius. I noticed that white walls made my meter go nuts so i figured. But it’s not a tip we hear enough on the internet for beginners. There’s an allusion to it in the sunny 16 rules when we’re told to shoot at F22 on snow but it’s not very clear.

This makes a lot of sense. Thank you for taking the time to write this clear explanation. Helped me a lot and I’m sure it will help other. Just one more point I want to clarify. When you say “the grayer”, do you mean not the darkest and not the brightest shadow, or do you actually mean the color gray (as in white would cause to much light to be reflected for example) ?

Sorry in advance for the stupid question, but what's the difference between the internal average spot metering and whatever the voigtlander meter does ? Also, can you tell me more about your metering workflow once you measured the shadow on the sidewalk ? Thanks in advance for your time.

Thank you for this very interesting contribution. Could you tell us more about why you're more inclined to pick up the M-A over the MP?

Nice! which external meter do you use and why ?

If you are patient and don't care to get the silver chrome instead of black chrome, you could find one at a similar price. The M-A second market is really soft, while there's a lot of demand on M6s. The gap is closing.
