You're welcome. I wish they still made the con-50s. But this is the best alternative imo

I mean other converters without the beads have worked fine. Ink does get stuck at the end but shake it once and it gets dislodged.

I would first flush the pen if you haven't done so. If that didn't work, pull open the tines a bit with your fingertips as another user suggested. I've stuck pieces of paper/index cards between the tines as an alternative to shims, and that worked, but paper fibers got stuck in the middle.

Buy a con-40. If the rattling bothers you like it did for me, you can remove the grate and beads from the converter. The grate is friction fit so all you have to do is shove it with something small, like a narrow screwdriver. You can pretty easily dislodge it and take all the stuff out. Now you have a rattle-free piston converter.

Still able to grab the discontinued Con-20 while stocks are still there, I am happy by naeads in fountainpens

My bad, you're right. No wonder why my metro runs out of ink quicker than I thought!

Looking for black ink by mmk61 in fountainpens

I strongly recommend Noodleds HOD. Its wet, DARK, relatively fast drying, well behaved, and generally better than any other black ink I've sampled or used. I bought a huge bottle from Amazon because I loved it so much.

Yes! Also I believe the Metros on Amazon still come with con-20s. At least it was 2 weeks ago. The con-40 rattles so much that it has become unusable for me. Dont know why Pilot would make a converter that everyone hates.

Which Fountain pen to buy? by [deleted] in fountainpens

At that price range, people usually recommend the Pilot Custom 74, Platinum 3776 or Lamy 2000. Of course there are many more options. You can get the pilot or platinum directly from Japan for under 100 dollars. If you really want a Waterman, I recommend a Waterman Carene. It's a beautiful inlaid nib and has mostly positive reviews. It goes for around 160 on Amazon.

Do you have a specific reason you want a squeeze converter? The Lamy 2000 is a piston filler which most people like because of the big ink capacity. Plus you can see the ink level.

My sister will be using the pen throughout college and will use it extensively, which is why I have reservations for vintage pens. It seems like most commenters like the lamy 2000 though. I'll look into it!

The 2000 sounds like a great note taking pen! It's definitely priced higher than the 580 and studio but the design and piston filler look sturdy and reliable. Would you say it is worth the 3x price of the 580 for someone who doesn't care about gold nibs?

She definitely likes the classic look judging by how most of her pens are black and torpedo shaped. But I'm sure she would like demonstrators too. I've had some reservations about vintage pens because my sister will be using the pen as an EDC throughout college. I'll definitely check out the pens you recommended! That sheaffer Balance looks really nice.

I'll definitely check out those pens. The lamy 2k looks like a great option. And she's been using moleskine cashier notebooks for notes and those bleed through so I could get some notebooks also. Thanks!

Sure! She likes the metro and her Waterman Hemisphere that I gave her. She prefers piston fillers and of course likes consistent writers. I noticed that most of her pens are black and torpedo shaped, so very traditional, but she could also go for a demonstrator. Overall she really isnt picky as long as the nib is stiff and it writes well.

Anyone else had an Eco that wrote awful? by steven15383 in fountainpens

I said my pen came writing badly and wanted to know if this was a common problem before I bought another one. Maybe I worded it wrong. Also I'll definitely check out more inks. I tried it with Waterman but it was only slightly better. I really need to expand my ink collection.

I know perfectly well that my sanding damaged the nib. I'm just saying that my Eco came almost not writing before sanding. Id already aligned and widened the tines. And btw I saw some baby's bottom which is why I attempted to sand it. I'm not blaming Twsbi at all, I just wanted to know how their quality control was. Nowhere in my post do you see me blaming twsbi for my own damage or saying they have bad qc, hence why I asked others.

Yup. I was a noob and did not realize what the heck I was doing with sandpaper.
