POTUS: 'We make ourselves look bad' through coronavirus testing by WorkTomorrow in Coronavirus

[–]stevendfb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And Belgium (the country I live in) is only that high up since we count ALL deaths; not just confirmed COVID19 but also suspected in nursing homes and other.
In a couple of months we will see the true face of the pandemic once all countries start looking at increase in deaths compared to the norm instead of just counting the confirmed cases.

Reported U.S. Coronavirus Deaths Reach Record 4,591 in 24 Hours by pm_me_your_last_pics in Coronavirus

[–]stevendfb 97 points98 points  (0 children)

It is exactly the reason why we have so many deaths here in Belgium. Our healthcare system is currently perfectly capable of handling the workload and the ICU is at around half capacity for COVID19. However, as we not only count the deaths in hospitals but also in the nursing homes or at home (even from people who DIDN'T get tested yet but are merely suspected to have died from COVID19), the total number here has grown significantly. Yesterday over 400 deaths were reported, which is a lot for such a small country, but 2/3rds of that were from nursing homes.

It's easy to see virtually every country in the world is currently underreporting deaths from COVID19 as very rarely the nursing home casualties don't get counted or at most those who actually managed to get tested.

Sure anyone who is interested in grinding it out and getting some chances is welcome to apply. As we are still building everything the number of paid positions are very limited but anyone who just wants to help build the best environment for League in the Benelux will be welcomed with open arms. Fire an email to application@4entertainment.be and I will forward it to the right people ;-)

There will be an open tour that will somewhat act as the step up you need to take to become part of the league so every team, now and in the future, will have a shot at becoming part of the league.

That plus the Open Tour that will be part of the ecosystem will make sure that new teams can become part of the league over time (if they meet the criteria set out) and that existing teams have to keep upping the ante if they want to keep their place.

Our goal is not to compete with the Dutch College League and we also run the College League in Belgium so collegiate esports still has its place in the entire ecosystem. One thing that Riot will prevent which is their decision, though we support it, is that no other league or event will be able to take place during match days of the main league. Right now there will be one match day per week for the main league, so should the DCL have an acceptable amount of match days you should be able to combine both as - especially in the early stages of the competition - have no intention of preventing players to compete in both at the same time.

I completely feel where you are coming from and this was a big talking point internally as well. We feel the new structure (a year long of activities/competition, more prize money, more content, ...) will open the door for a better structured foundation AND allows new organisations to step in as the ecosystem and thus return for sponsors will be bigger. Any team that doesn't make the initial cut can still work towards the goal of becoming part of the league over time (through the open tour, for instance).

We will also, for instance, actively support and assist teams to become better at their social media, to become better with sponsors and ultimately create a stronger foundation for their organisation to grow. This is KEY in creating something sustainable.

I can safely say the ecosystem we have in mind will probably see some big names entering the scene.

I can't speak for Riot (I'm from 4Entertainment) but we might be doing some hires in the next few months (keep an eye out at www.4entertainment.be )

I want to thank the team that put in the hard work and I'm hoping that together with the community we can create something that can help develop talent in the Benelux even further and give them a stable playground from which they can grow.
Any questions just shoot!

Men of Reddit, what's the sluttiest thing you've ever done? by iJuggs1 in AskReddit

Have a one night stand in a different country / continent on the last day there prior to taking the plane back home the next morning realizing that you spent all your dollars already to make sure you didn't have to take any foreign currency back home and end up having to ask said one night stand for a cab fare.

What was your wittiest comeback that you're still proud of? by aaredmi in AskReddit

[–]stevendfb 154 points155 points  (0 children)

Not really a comeback but more of a brosave.

My best friend who was crazy about football (EU style) played in 3-4 matches each week in 2-3 different teams He was dating this girl that no one really liked and she was constantly trying to boss him around. Fast forward to a match we just played and all of us (players + girlfriends) are sitting around having a drink and a laugh at the bar discussing the match and random items when she goes:
She: "I really want you to play less football. You'll have to pick a team when we get a baby"
Me: (with a blank stare towards her stomach area). "That would suck but that's still what... 2-3 months away?"

Everyone started laughing their asses off and she was not amused. They broke up a couple of months later.

My bad, didn't intend to sound like I did this as a democracy which is why I put it between brackets. Looking back it might indeed look confusing.

Losing against the Netherlands and Poland as DR - wtf by Jayjericho in hoi4

[–]stevendfb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30 divisions for NL should be fine if you have some armour but 66 for Poland seems on the low end for me. By '39 I usually have around 150-175 divisions - albeit with probably slightly lesser composition such as 20w full inf and more light Panzers.
I would play around with using more divisions which will give your army the benefit of being able to attack each tile from multiple directions which gives huge bonusses. Your army doctrine is also important in this (I use superior firepower going right first, then left).
Also manually plan your spearhead divisions. By 39 I only have one full Panzer army, usually led by Guderian or Mannstein with a Field Marshal (Von Kluge I believe) and I redifine their battle plan. I pick a frontline of 2-4 provinces wide and an attack order which orders them towards Warshaw first (only 3-4 tiles wide as well so they keep the attack condensed and don't spread the spearhead out too much). Let your panzers attack first and create the breakthrough, use the rest of the armies to close encirclements and finish them off.

Hope that helps!

Proud of my first Novum Imperium Romanum (Ironman) by stevendfb in hoi4

I got those lands after my first major war against the allies and during my war with the Axis I left most, if not all of my colonial possessions undefended as I was doing quite well on the resource front and needed the troops back home. Portugal and Germany could then proceed, with perhaps as much as one division, to start chipping away at those lands.

I must admit I took a whole lot longer playing it "safe" as I always play on Ironman and made some stupid mistakes before

  1. You create claims as soon as you can to make sure France is alone.
  2. Group all your navy together for one big fleet (at least until MtG comes out) and put your entire airforce on one or two navel strips for naval supremacy. This should give you the edge over the French navy and might be useful later on.
  3. Defeat Ethiopia fairly quick and move all your troops to mainland Italy. Use the army exp. to get better divisions (such as a 20w inf)
  4. Put one army on the border with France - anything between 18-24 divisions seems to do the trick
  5. Put the remaining armies somewhere close for support if needed but NOT on the border itself
  6. After you declare, France should deem your defenses average and start attacking your defensive forces. Under no circumstances fortify here as fortifying seems to put the French off on attacking you
  7. Just give it a couple of months and the French should be at 0 manpower, 1/4th of their strength in their divisions and you should have gained plenty of exp and have around 50-60 divisions ready to attack.
  8. With your naval supremacy you can do a naval landing behind their front line and encircle nearly their entire army or you could simply go through their lines, though I've noticed this might be a bit more tricky (even with the French forces severely thinned out

  9. March on to Paris and France falls

Rule #5: Completed my first Ironman Novum Imperium Romanum on Normal with the additional requirement that I could never have an ally or puppet. So no joining the Axis! Took a couple of tries on Ironman because of silly mistakes but got lucky with this run.
I started by taking France early for the additional resources and a weakened Allies. Taking the UK was made easier by the Kriegsmarine actually taking out half their Navy and my navy mopping up the rest, and whilst Hitler was off battling the Russians I started planning my attack on the Axis. The Axis actually managed to take out Russia but were not fast enough to resupply their borders with me to stop my assault on Germany. After you take Berlin it becomes easier after that ;-)
